An in-depth look at Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year Props

2021-22 NFL Offensive & Defensive ROTY Betting Odds, Longshot and Free Predictions

Five quarterbacks were picked in the first round this year, including each of the top-three spots. The top three wide receivers taken this year are all said to have greater skills than any of the ones taken in last year’s historical draft. What’s more, a tight end was taken fourth overall for the first time in history, said to be a generational talent and better than any of those wide receivers.

The race for offensive rookie of the year should be one of the most interesting ones in recent history and might feature a surprise at the top when it’s all said and done.

Meanwhile no defensive player was taken until the eighth pick and that’s the first time in a generation that it’s taken that long. What’s more, all of the defensive line picks are said to need a lot of work to refine their game.

That leaves the defensive rookie of the year race more open than it’s been in a long time.

Tim Tebow might play next year. What are the odds?

Time to make some picks!

NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year: (Najee Harris +1200)
Five first found quarterbacks were taken. But historically where a QB has been MVP every year since 2013, only three of the last eight offensive rookies of the year have been QBs.

Will one of the electric rookie WRs/ TEs or later round RBs sneak up on this draft class? Here is where fit and opportunity are really important.

Among the quarterbacks Justin Fields (+550) is my favorite. He’s likely to start from the beginning of the year if he has a strong training camp and the Bears are still in win-now mode.

Trevor Lawrence (+300) and Zach Wilson (+850) are both going to teams looking at long rebuilds. Mac Jones (+900) is in another win-now environment, but it’s hard to see him beating out Cam Newton, at least for a few weeks.

Trey Lance (+800) is almost certain to sit behind Jimmy Garoppolo as long the 49ers remain relevant.

Kyle Pitts (+1300) is going to get every chance to shine for the Falcons and same goes for Ja’Marr Chase (+1300) teaming up with his college QB Joe Burrow on the Bengals.

RB Najee Harris (+1200) is in a great spot in Pittsburgh. He’s projected to be a three-down back who will also get touches in the passing game and the Steelers are another team in win-now mode. The opportunity to make a huge impact on a playoff team puts him ahead of the pack.

Among the longer shots, I love Rashod Bateman’s situation in Baltimore (+5000) to help elevate the Ravens passing attack.

Long Shot: (Rashod Bateman +5000)

NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Year: (Micah Parson +550)
A defensive lineman or impact linebacker who can get after the quarterback has won this award eight of the last ten years. But this year the top defensive players picked were both cornerbacks. The linemen picked early are all considered projects, including Kwity Paye (+850), and Jaelen Phillips (+800).

Micah Parsons (+550) is the favorite and is in a favorable situation in Dallas because of the scheme they play and their plans to use him as a blitzing linebacker. Also, this was one of the worst defenses in the history of the league in 2020, so if they can jump to the middle of the pack and his stats are good he’ll be making a strong case for himself.

Among the long shots, Asante Samuel Jr. (+3000) may be a cornerback, but he’s in a great position to capitalize in San Diego. This team can bring tons of pressure up front and they have a talented back-seven that should create opportunities for success.

Long Shot: (Asante Samuel Jr. +3000)

Will Tim Tebow play a game in the NFL in the 2021/2022 season (Yes +150)
Jaguars coach Urban Myers, Tim Tebow’s former coach during his glory days at Florida has already gone on record saying he’d love to have the 33-year-old Tebow on his team. The owner has said the same thing. The only catch is he’s trying to make it as a tight end. But stranger things have happened and it makes sense for a new coach to bring in his former players to help establish culture.
