2021 Palmetto Championship Preview, Golf Odds, Value Bet, Prop Bets and Predictions

With the US Open coming up next week, this week’s Palmetto Championship in Ridgeland South Carolina is a little short of marquee names. Only four of the world’s top-25 golfers are here, so advantage to Dustin Johnson (+800), Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton (+1400) and the rest of the field who will be gunning for a win.

This is the first time a PGA Tour event is taking place at the Par-71, 7,655-yard course as it is replacing the Canadian Open due to Covid travel restrictions.

This course will favor long hitters. Consider that there are three par 4 holes on the front nine that measure more than 500 yards and two more on the back nine that are between 465 and 500. There is also a whopping 645-yard par 5 on the fourth hole and another measuring 580 yards.

This could be a great week to cash in on a medium or long-shot pick to win it all and we’ll take a look at a few.

Johnson’s world ranking has slipped from first to seventh after a string of mediocre results the past couple of months. He’ll be using this tournament to help boost his game and confidence ahead of the US Open. This is his home state.

Koepka bounced back in a major way at the PGA Championship finishing second. He had missed the cut at his two previous tournaments, including the Masters. Then again, he finished tied for second in his tournament prior to that at the WGC-Mexico Championship. Talk about hit or miss!

Tommy Fleetwood (+2500) has missed some cuts of late, but he has done well of late on long courses. He ranks second on courses more than 7,400 yards in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green in his last 24 rounds and 11th in approach shots.

Among the longer shots to consider include Keith Mitchell (+4000) and Ian Poulter (+3300).

Mitchell has been playing very solid golf over the past month, finishing third at the Wells Fargo Championship and playing well in the foursome tournament, the Zurich Classic. He just missed qualifying for the US Open, so he’ll be plenty motivated to win here. He’s also done well on courses designed by Tom Fazio.

Poulter seems to enjoy playing on fast surfaces like this one, ranking 11th in putting and 16th in Strokes Gained. He’s not the longest hitter, but he is an accurate one.

Luke List (+5000) has had an up and down spring season, but he’s a long hitter with two-top 10 results in 2021. The most recent was just last month when he finished T6 at Wells Fargo.

Among the long shots, Bryson Nimmer (+35,000) is a local who literally grew up on a farm next to this golf course. He shot a 68 in round two at the RBC Heritage in April and followed it up with a couple of top-27 results on the Korn Ferry Tour.
