The First Major of the Year Starts Thursday

2021 The Masters Early Betting Preview & Majors Prop Bet, PGA Golf Odds and Predictions

Dustin Johnson looks to defend his 2020 Masters title that he won last November. The tournament returns to its usual spring weekend and with it comes a weekend full of intrigue with Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and a host of challengers vying for the title.

One tip to consider when evaluating this closely bunched field is the start time. It is a trend at this point that many winners start in the afternoon on Thursday and the morning on Friday. That alone might be just the edge this year’s winner needs.

Also, keep in mind that the last golfer to win in consecutive years was Tiger Woods, back in 2001-02.

Here we take an early look, make our favorite and long shot pics as well as some favorite prop picks on who will win a major this year.

The Prediction: (Bryson DeChambeau +1100)
We’ve had a different winner here for each of the last eight years and with good reason with so many quality golfers in the field. DeChambeau won his first major last year as he took the tour by storm. He’s a big hitter and his analytic style should be well suited to the quirks at Augusta National. He’s finished third and first in his last two tournaments. He was a disappointing 34th at last year’s Masters, but he’s proven to be a quick study.

The Long Shot: (Sergio Garcia +5000)
He got the Majors monkey off his back when he won here in 2017 and he’s looked solid this season. This season he already has a victory in the Sanderson Farms Championship and finished tied for ninth in the Players Championship. He also finished tied for fifth in his last event, the Match Play championships. Garcia knows this course as well as anyone and he’s mentally stronger at this later stage of his career.

Will Bryson DeChambeau win a Major in 2021?

No    -325
Yes    +225

Odds to win a Major in 2021: (DeChambeau +225)
The giants of not that long ago, such as Jordan Speith, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson and Adam Scott have now gone at least four years since any have won a major. It’s hard to count on any of them breaking through against this current wave of golfers who are so adept at combining strength and analytics.

I picked DeChambeau to win the Masters, so clearly I like him +225 to win here as well.

If you’re looking for a breakthrough with some excellent odds, Cameron Smith, +1000 is an excellent choice. He is just 27 years old and last year finished second in the Masters and previously has a 4th place finish in the US Open to his name.
