Chase Elliott a Strong Favorite on the Road in Sonoma California

2021 Toyota Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series Race Preview, Odds, Props and Predictions

NASCAR is shifting back to the road this week in the Toyota Save Mart 350 after last week’s race from Charlotte which is the longest of the season.

Chase Elliott (+200) who just won a road race two weeks ago at COTA, his first victory of the season is the heavy favorite. He has been the most consistent road racer on a variety of courses among the top drivers on tour in recent years. He also finished second last week and now has four straight top-three results. On the other hand, he’s never won this event and doesn’t even have a top-five result in his four attempts.

Martin Truex Jr. (+400) is the man who has owned this course in the past three years and it’s by a country mile. He’s the two time-defending champion and has led the most laps in each of the last three races. He also leads the circuit with three wins this season, but he’s finished 19th or worse in his last three races, since winning at Darlington.

Kyle Larson (+700) has had the fastest car week in, week out this season and he finally put it all together to come out on top at the Coca Cola 600 last week. It was his first win since March, but he was second on the road at COTA and he now has four straight top-two results.

Kyle Busch (+700) is finally heating up after a slow start to his season. He finished third last week and now has a win and two more top-three results in his last five races. He was tenth on the road at COTA.

Denny Hamlin (+1200) continues to lead the points standings by leaps and bounds even though he’s the only driver in the top-eight without a victory this season. He’s finished top five here in three of the last four races, with his best career finish here a second-place result in 2016.

Christopher Bell (+2800) won the road race at Daytona earlier this season and has won here on the Xfinity tour. Unfortunately he’s starting 20th so he’ll have his work cut out for him.
Kurt Busch (+5500) has not had a good season, but this is one of his favorite courses. He has a win here and six more top-five results in his illustrious career. He’s with Chip Ganassi now. Most of those top results came with Penske and Stewart-Haas.

The Prediction: (Martin Truex Jr. +400)
This is another race where the smart choice would be to spread your investment around between the two hottest drivers at the moment in Elliott and Larson as well as Truex Jr. who has dominated this course. Sonoma is a much more technical race than the other road courses, and Truex Jr. shines in those environments. Save your biggest bet for him to win.

The Long Shot: (Christopher Bell +2800)
He’s shown he can win on the road and he drives a Joe Gibbs car. That gives him an edge over other long shots. In a year that has already seen 11 different winners including long shots like Bell and Michael McDowell, one more to consider is Matt DiBenedetto (+8800) who finished fourth here last year racing for the same LFR racing team.

Propping up:

  1. Take Kyle Busch #18 +270 for Top 3 Finish
  2. Take Denny Hamlin #11 +165 for Top 5 Finish
  3. Take Christopher Bell #20 +110 for Top 10 Finish
  4. Long Shot Bets - Ryan Newman #6 +450 for Top 10 Finish
