Picking Our Super Bowl Match Up for the 2021-22 Season

2022 Super Bowl LVI Teams Matchups Odds, DPOTY Predictions, Longshots & Future Odds

The eve of the NFL season is here, with football set to fill our screens, our hearts and hopefully our wallets for the next six months.

In a league of 32 teams, there are arguably only a handful that have a true shot to win the Super Bowl this year.

At the top of the list in the AFC are Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore, Tennessee, Cleveland and if you’re feeling optimistic, New England.

In the NFC, we’re looking at Tampa Bay, Green Bay, LA Rams, Seattle, San Francisco as the clear favorites. The upstarts include Minnesota, New Orleans, Dallas and Washington.

Who do you like to face off in the Super Bowl this year?

Read on to see our picks for the matchup as well as our pick(s) to win Defensive Player of the Year

The Prediction on 2022 Super Bowl Matchup:
Kansas City has retooled their offensive line and it is arguably the best it’s been with Patrick Mahomes at the helm. On the other hand they lost a couple of key depth receivers in Sammy Watkins and Chris Conley and they’ve been fortunate in that their best offensive players, including now 32-year-old Travis Kelce and WR Tyreek Hill have stayed healthy throughout their run.

But this should be a hungry team looking to build on its legacy and coach Andy Reid remains one of the best in the business. Mahomes is still just 25-years-old (turning 26 this month) and should have yet another level to his game. Pick against the Chiefs in the AFC at your own risk.

The NFC has an intriguing mix of teams at the top, including the gauntlet that is the NFC West, the defending champs in Tampa Bay and a Packers team that’s been the bridesmaid in the conference the last two years.

Add it all up and I’ll take Green Bay to finally emerge from the conference in what is likely Aaron Rodgers last year with the team. Their profile is similar to what we saw in Tampa Bay last year. The core of this team is filled with young veterans looking to prove themselves and they know it is likely their last year together.

The Bucs should be great again, but there are a lot of pieces in their 30s and 40s that they are relying on. Injuries have a high chance to play a factor here.

The NFC West teams will be in a war of attrition all year, so if picking just one team to emerge from the NFC, I’ll stick with the Packers who play in a pretty weak division.
Pick: Chiefs vs. Packers +1800

Other Options to Consider:
If going with an NFC West team to emerge, my preference is Seattle, now into year three in the rebuild of their defense and with a strong receiver set and running game to complement Russell Wilson who is still one of the top QBs in the game.

I like the Rams as well, but they are such a top-heavy team and are relying on 40-year-old Andrew Whitworth to protect Matthew Stafford’s blind side. The extra regular season game hurts.
Value Pick: Kansas City vs. Seattle +3000

The long shot pick is Washington to make it out of the NFC. Their defense was already ahead of the curve in becoming a top-five unit last year. Their defensive front is arguably the best overall defensive unit in the league.

I think they have enough tools on offense led by WRs Terry McLaurin a solid QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick and a great coach in Ron Rivera to go on a deep run.
The Long Shot: Kansas City vs. Washington +8500

Defensive Player of the Year:
This award is based on regular season play alone, but based on what I just wrote about Washington, I think Chase Young in his second year is the man to beat. Among the long-shot picks, the Bucs defense showed in the playoffs and eventually the Super Bowl how fearsome they can be. The leader of the pack is LB Devin White.
The Prediction: Chase Young +800

Long Shot Pick: Devin White +2000
