Toronto and San Diego Continue Wildcard Push vs their Division Leaders

MLB Odds & Parlay Predictions at 9 for 1 Payout on Rays vs Blue Jays and Padres vs Giants

The Toronto Blue Jays kept up their red-hot ways beating the Tampa Bay Rays 8-1 Monday night. The win kept them atop the wildcard leaderboard. one game up on New York.

The Jays are now 15-2 in their last 17 games and a perfect 8-0 against teams with winning records including the A’s, Yankees and now the Rays. They have scored six or more runs in 11 of those games and five runs in two others. They’ve allowed three runs or less in nine of them as well.

Tampa Bay has now lost four of their last five, including dropping two of three to Detroit on the weekend. Prior to that they were on a 17-4 run of their own.

They still lead Toronto by eight games in the AL East.

San Diego Padres fell into a tie with St Louis, both a half game back of Cincinnati for the final NL wildcard spot after getting blown out by San Francisco 9-1 on Monday. It was their fourth straight loss after getting swept by the Dodgers on the weekend.

The Padres have mostly been a disaster over the past month, posting an 8-20 record over that span. In the past six games they’ve been shut out three times along with their one-run performance on Monday.

The San Francisco Giants have taken advantage of a soft spot in their schedule winning eight straight and ten of their last 11.

With the win they continue to hold the Dodgers at bay in the race for the NL West title and maintain the best record in Major League Baseball.

Starting Monday night, 10 of the Giants final 19 games are coming against the Padres. The Giants were 5-4 in the season series heading into this week’s games and the last time they faced each other was May 9th.

Tampa Bay at Toronto (SN, 7:07 pm ET)
Toronto at -132 O/U 9u (-115)

Probable Pitchers:
Tampa Bay: Drew Rasmussen (2-1) ERA: 3.25
Toronto: Jose Berrios (11-7) ERA: 3.52

Drew Rasmussen has settled in quite well into his role as a starter over his last five appearances after being a reliever for most of the season. He’s allowed a total of four earned runs in 22 innings in that span for a 1.64 ERA. The Rays are 4-1 in those games. Jose Berrios seems to have figured out whatever had been ailing him over a couple of rough starts with Toronto. Acquired at the trade deadline from the Twins, the Jays have won his last three starts after losing his previous four. His last two starts came against wildcard competitors New York and Oakland. He’s allowed five earned runs in 20.1 innings for a 2.24 ERA over that span. With Berrios finding his form, Toronto pulls out a win.
The Pick: Toronto 4-2
Toronto -132 & Under 9 (-115)

San Diego at San Francisco (NBCS-BA, 9:45 pm ET)
San Francisco -170 O/U 9u (-115)

Probable Pitchers:
San Diego: Jake Arrieta (5-12) ERA: 7.04
San Francisco: Anthony DeSclafani (11-6) ERA: 3.33

Jake Arrieta is a shell of himself. After a solid spring, he’s posted an 8.31 ERA in June, 14.29 in July and 13.50 in August. He’s made just two starts with San Diego since coming over from the Cubs, allowing 8 runs in 8.1 innings in losses to Houston and Colorado. His teams are 1-10 in his last 11 starts with him on the mound. Anthony Desclafani continues to be one of the pleasant surprises of the season, 17th in ERA with a 3.33 mark and hitters batting just .225 against him. After a couple of rough starts at the end of July and start of August he seems to have righted the ship allowing eight runs in 19.2 innings for a 3.77 ERA in his last five appearances. The Giants are 3-2 in those games. Desclafani is no ace, but with the best team in the National League backing him up, taking on one of the worst starters in the league and a slumping foe, the edge goes to the Giants.
The Pick: San Francisco 7-3
San Francisco -170 & Over 9 (-105)
