Injury Ravaged Baltimore Visit Las Vegas on Monday Night Football

NFL Monday Night Football Odds & Parlay Picks on Baltimore Ravens at Las Vegas Raiders

The Baltimore Ravens have had one of the best running games in the league in each of Lamar Jackson’s seasons as the starting quarterback. His ability to run and throw is elite and with it comes many opportunities for his running backs to gash and gain yardage.

This year the team focused on shoring up speed and skill in the receiving game and that was going to help take the offense to a whole new level.

Three massive injuries at the end of preseason and on the cusp of the season have derailed those plans. The two running backs they were counting on to get most of the snaps, JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards are lost for the season before the first snap. In their place is veteran Latavius Murray, signed just this week and young unknowns Ty’Son Williams and Trenton Cannon.

The third injury was to their leading cornerback Marcus Peters who is also out for the year after tearing his ACL on Thursday.

What’s more, two key ads in the receiving game, first round rookie Rashod Bateman and Miles Bateman are on IR and are out until at least week four.

Talent in the form of TE Mark Andrews, WRs Marquise Brown and free agent pickup Sammy Watkins remain on offense and the defense should be strong, but all of a sudden this team’s depth will be tested in the early going more than any other in the league.

The pressure is on Las Vegas Raiders to finally earn a winning season and hopefully a playoff spot. Both have eluded coach Jon Gruden in his first three years returning to the team. His record is 19-29 in that time. On the other hand, there has been improvement each season including an 8-8 record last year.

He’s now had three full seasons and four off seasons to remake the team in his image. If they are going to make a leap forward, this is the time to get it done.

QB Derek Carr has proven to be a good fit and RB Josh Jacobs has been excellent running the ball. TE Darren Waller was one of the breakout stories of the league last season. They are expecting big things from their young and fast receiver corps -very much made in the mold of Al Davis’ Raiders- led by Henry Ruggs entering his second year and Hunter Renfrow entering his third.

The offensive line had a makeover as they traded away their starting left tackle Trent Brown and drafted Alex Leatherwood in the first round and he’ll get the start at right tackle.

Pressuring the QB has long been an issue for this team. They added free agent Yannick Ngakoue and will be counting on the progression of third year men Maxx Crosby and Clelin Ferrell to find a new level to their games.
