Tom Brady and Company Kick Off Super Bowl Defense Against America’s Team

NFL Opening Season Odds & TNF Parlay Predictions on Dallas Cowboys vs Tampa Bay Bucs

Dak Prescott will be taking the field for the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night for the first time in 333 days. He’s returning from a broken ankle that we all saw too vividly in our living rooms last October. But then early in training camp he injured his shoulder as well.

As a result, he has not been tackled and he has not been in live action since that fateful afternoon against the Giants. That not only includes against opposing teams, but even in practice with his own mates.

Will there be rust? Surely. The question is how much and how well will the much-beleaguered Dallas defense be able to hold off Tampa Bay in the meanwhile?

Prescott returning, is not the only major question mark for Dallas to overcome as they face arguably one of the most dangerous teams in the league.

They are also welcoming back linemen Tyron Smith and La’el Collins who missed most (Smith) and all of last season (Collins). CeeDee Lamb spent the second half of August on the Covid list and is getting back to speed and RB Ezekiel Elliott is coming off his worst season as a professional.

Those are just the questions for an offense that has expectations to be one of the league’s best.

On defense, they are trying to recover from being the worst defense in their franchise’s history.

They drafted almost entirely for that side of the ball last year and signed mid-tier free agents as well to shore up the defense. All eyes will be on LB Micah Parsons who has looked terrific ever since the start of training camp.

This unit should be stacked at linebackers with the addition of Keanu Neal and the return of Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith. The line -especially up the middle- and the secondary remain question marks under the tutelage of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who once led Seattle’s Legion of Boom before being hired to coach the Falcons.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the meanwhile is returning every starter on both sides of the ball on a Super Bowl winning team. It has never been done before and is even more astounding in the cap era where turnover is the name of the game.

Their offense took off after the bye last year, scoring at least 30 points in seven straight games, culminating with the Super Bowl win. The defense, led by Devin White was dominant in that final game and will be looking to become one of the elite units in the NFL this year.

Injuries at receiver might be an issue for the Bucs Thursday night with WR1 Chris Godwin showing up on the injury report on Tuesday with a quad issue and Antonio Brown working his way back from a knee issue.

QB Tom Brady admitted to play on a torn MCL last year for most of the season. He is now 44-years-old and should be even better in Bruce Arians offense with a full year under his belt.

Dallas at Tampa Bay (NBC, 8:20 pm ET)
Tampa Bay at -8½ O/U 51½

I think Tampa Bay comes out flying in this one. It’s a tough matchup for the retooled Cowboys. I expect their defense to be much better this year, but the loss of their best offensive lineman, RG Zack Martin (covid) and injuries to an already thin tackle group, leaves them vulnerable in this one against one of the best teams in the NFL.
The Pick: Bucs 35-21
Tampa Bay -8½ & Over 51
