Chiefs-Browns Highlight Afternoon Games, Rams & Bears Debut New QBs

NFL Opening Week Odds & Parlay Predictions on Browns vs Chiefs and Bears vs Rams

The Kansas City Chiefs enter the season as strong favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. The Cleveland Browns are coming off their most successful season in over two decades and are looking to challenge the Chiefs for AFC supremacy.

QB Patrick Mahomes, WR Tyreek Hill, TE Travis Kelce and RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire lead one of the most dominant offenses in the NFL. They’ll be playing behind a revamped offensive live led by former Raven Orlando Brown and former Patriot Joe Thurney. Two rookies and a second-year vet will man the center and the right side of the line.

The Browns are hoping their defensive line led by one of the league’s best in Myles Garrett along with new addition Jadeveon Clowney can expose the weaker aspects of the Chiefs front-fivet.

Cleveland returned to relevance last year, winning their first playoff game since the 1990s, but their weak link was the secondary. They are hoping they addressed the issue with the additions of Ronnie Harrison, Grant Delpit and John Johnson at safety along with the drafting of CB Greg Newsome in the first round.

They are also hoping QB Baker Mayfield builds on his second-half of season performance which was his best since being picked first overall three years ago. The Browns will also welcome back WR Odell Beckham who missed most of last season.

The Los Angeles Rams made one of the big splashes of the offseason in trading for QB Matthew Stafford with the expectation that will open up the playbook of head coach Sean McVay. The coach is said to have one of the most innovative offensive minds in the game and now he has a field general who he sees as an equal, able to execute it.

WRs Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods lead a balanced attack.

The Rams are optimistic they have a Super Bowl team because of the huge leap forward their defense made last year to become a top-three unit. DT Aaron Donald and CB Jalen Ramsey lead that side of the ball.

One weak link could be the line as 40-year-old Andrew Whitworth is tasked to protect Stafford’s blindside coming off a season-ending torn MCL.

The Chicago Bears are dealing with some QB controversy as they hand the reigns of the offense to free-agent addition QB Andy Dalton over first-round pick Justin Fields. The rookie electrified in the preseason and the fans are clamoring for him, but the coaches are taking a more measured approach.

The defense is aging, but still remains among the best led by LB Khalil Mack and LB Roquan Smith.

Another key addition is WR Marquise Goodwin from the 49ers to add a new threat to a unit that features one of the league’s best in Allen Robinson.

Cleveland at Kansas City (CBS, 4:25 pm ET)
Kansas City at -5½ O/U 54½
The last time these teams played was the Browns last game of the season when the Chiefs beat them by five at home in the playoffs, 22-17. The Browns are an improved team overall and should be able to cover this spread on the road in what should be a close and entertaining game.
The Pick: Kansas City 31-27
Cleveland +5½ & Over 54½

Chicago at LA Rams (NBC, 8:20 pm ET)
LA Rams at -8 O/U 47
This spread has crept up above a touchdown with concerns that the Bears don’t have the offense to keep pace with the Rams. I tend to agree with that assessment.
The Pick: LA Rams 28-14
LA Rams -8 & Under 47 (-115)
A $50 Parlay Bet will return $128 in Profit
