Perfect Time to Lay Some Early Money Down on a Future Champion

NHL Stanley Cup Future Odds, Picks, Longshot & Who to Stay Away From

The NHL season is cruising along and it’s fair to say we know enough to start making some informed choices on who will be this year’s Stanley Cup champion.

Toronto has the best record in the league heading into mid-March. The Tampa Bay Lightning are looking terrific even without their best player - Nikita Kucherov - in the lineup until the playoffs are set to start. Colorado, Boston and Vegas are nipping at their heels and between Minnesota, Carolina, Winnipeg, Florida and the Islanders, we have an intriguing crop of teams looking to surprise.

Time to make some picks!

Value Bet (Tampa Bay +525)
They are the defending champs and they are only looking better this year to this point. Goalie Andrei Vasilevsky is the Vezina favorite, defenseman Victor Hedman the Norris favorite, Kucherov is expected to make a full recovery in time for the playoffs and they have the strongest roster, top to bottom in the NHL

Long shot Bet (Winnipeg +2600)
Jump on the Jets bandwagon before it’s too late! These are amazing odds for a team with arguably the best top-six forward group in the NHL, the best group of centers and the defending Vezina winner, Connor Helllebuyck playing at an elite level again. They are a defenseman away from being truly elite and there’s every reason to think they’ll add one before the trade deadline, considering they already made a huge move in bringing Pierre Luc Dubois to town.

Stay away Bet (Toronto +500)
First of all they play in the same division as Winnipeg, so clearly I don’t think they’ll get past the Jets. This is a team that still has not won a playoff series since 2003-04 (17 years ago!). Their depth is much improved this year, but it’s built on an aging core in Joe Thornton, Wayne Simmons and Jason Spezza that is likely to break down in the playoffs. Their top forwards are elite, but their goaltending isn’t and teams such as Winnipeg, Tampa, Colorado and Vegas should match up very well if or when they were to face any of the above. The drought continues for the Leafs!
