Montreal Looks to Get Back Into Series on Home Ice against Tampa Bay

NHL Stanley Cup Game 3 Parlay Picks, Odds & Props Predictions on Tampa Bay vs Montreal

It is not time to panic- yet. But if you’re the Montreal Canadiens, you know that the wonderful run you’ve been on to get to game three of the Stanley Cup Finals will likely be coming to a quick end if you don’t pick up a win on home ice Friday night.

In the Finals thus far, the bounces that had been going Montreal’s way have stopped and instead it is the defending champions who are getting the benefits of puck luck.

Exhibit A, is the Tampa Bay Lightning getting the winning goal in game two with less than two seconds remaining in the second period on a gorgeous tip-in by Blake Coleman. Meanwhile, at the other end of the ice, goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy put on a goaltending clinic while stopping 42 of the 43 shots he faced.

He’s now allowed a total of two goals in his last three games and he has posted two shutouts and allowed one goal in two other games as part of his last five starts.

He is arguably the best goalie in the world right now, and he’s proving it, staying a save or two ahead of the former best goalie in the world, Carey Price. His GAA now stands at 1.89 in this year’s playoffs. Price is up to 2.22 after allowing eight goals on 50 shots thus far in the Finals.

What Montreal still has going for it is a strong core of veterans, including five with Stanley Cup winning experience who are helping to keep the panic levels to a minimum. They are also getting their head coach back behind the bench on Friday night, after he was forced to miss two weeks due to a positive Covid test. Also, they have yet to lose -or play- a game at home yet in this series and they have to believe that it’s just a matter of time before they start to bury their chances.

What’s more, they can lean on the experience gained earlier in the playoffs when they had their backs against the wall in game five in Toronto down three games to one and they managed to turn that series around with a huge win on the road.

But thus far Tampa Bay has shown an ability to beat Montreal with their stars leading the way -as they did in game one- and with their role players – as they did in game two.

Nick Suzuki and defensive defenseman Ben Chariot are the only two Canadiens to put the puck in the net in the Finals.

Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point each have three points through the first two games due to their game one performance.

Tampa Bay at Montreal - Game #3 (NBC, 8:00 pm ET) - Tampa Bay -135 - O/U 5o (-125)
This is a tough call. When a goalie and a team are as in synch as the Lightning have been through the first two games, along with the fact they are the defending champions, it is hard to bet against them until they show us otherwise. At the same time, the Habs will have last change, they can get the matchups they like and they are bound to bury a chance or two while Price raises his game. They’ve been able to do it all playoffs.
