Online Poker at Poker Stars
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is set to go into effect later this year and banking companies are already starting to clamp down.  MasterCard is the latest institution that has made restrictions on U.S. citizens using their card to make deposits to offshore gaming companies, including online poker sites.

So, what is a player to do?

There are still some easy to use methods for U.S. players to make deposits with.  The following list may help your online poker experience.

Payment Options For US Players

Instant Check / eChecks – Available at Bodog Poker, Poker Stars & BetUS Poker.  This is an easy way to deposit as its instant and free to deposit directly from your bank account.
eWalletXpress – Works similarly to Neteller or PayPal.Some Visa and Discover cards still work, but your card may be blocked at the bank level.
Western Union – Many of the sites allow this type of transfer, but you must check the site for detailed transfer instructions.
MoneyGram – This service is similar Western Union.  Check to see if your card room accepts this method.
Wire Transfer – Most poker sites allow direct wire transfer.  Instructions should be readily available on the deposit pages of your card room.

The UIGEA was signed into law in 2006.  It effectively bans banking institutions and credit card companies from allowing U.S. citizens to use their services for depositing wager money into online poker and casino accounts.

In May 2009, U.S. Congressman Barney Frank introduced a bill to overturn the gambling aspects of the Act, “The Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act,” which seeks to repeal the major online gaming obstacles of the UIGEA and go further in protecting Americans from fraud, while safeguarding against underage and problem gamblers.

Frank also introduced a bill to delay the implementations of the UIGEA for one year, until Dec. 1, 2010.
