Most Anticipated Fight of the Year Takes Place on Huge Saturday Night Card

UFC 264 McGregor vs Poirier 3 Full Card Betting Odds, Prop Bets Picks and Predictions

Connor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will be fighting the rubber match in their trilogy Saturday night in what is among the most highly anticipated fights of the year.

McGregor won the first match way back in 2014 via first round knockout. It was during his heyday while he was in the midst of becoming a two-division champion and the biggest name in the sport.

Amazing how time flies though as he’s fought just three times since 2016, posting a 1-2 record, including a loss to Poirier this January.

Poirier has evolved into one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport and it showed in their last match up as he dominated McGregor, forcing his opponent to fight on his terms.

Poirier is an elite kicker and he was able to use those skills to keep McGregor at bay and injure his foot. Once he saw the damage done, he went in for the kill, taking McGregor to the ground and knocking him out.

The winner of this match is likely setting himself up for a lightweight championship bout with Charles Oliveira.

The co-main event is a welterweight fight between number four Stephen Thompson and number two ranked Gilbert Burns that may lead the winner to a title fight.

At 38 and 34 years-old respectively, these are two seasoned veterans who are still capable of elite performances.

Burns is trying to put a TKO loss in his last fight to welterweight champ Kamaru Usman behind him and get back to the form that saw him win six straight prior to that contest.

Thompson has won two straight fights and is looking for another title shot after earning a draw and then eventually losing a majority decision in his two attempts against former champion Tyron Woodley.

Thompson is a pure karate style striker while Burns is a top-notch grappler.

It’s a fascinating contrast in approach as Thompson has elite speed and has generally been impossible to pin down in his impressive career. Burns is a terrific ground fighter who packs a serious punch, but in order to be most effective he’ll have to catch his opponent.

Co-Main Event Prediction: Lightweight Fight:
Conor McGregor +105 vs. Dustin Poirier -125

It is hard to put the image of the last fight out of mind with McGregor deciding to take a pure boxing approach and Poirier making quick work of him with a second-round knockout. McGregor will not make that mistake again, but I still don’t think it’ll be enough for a win, just to prolong the match. Poirier has not won by submission in nine years, but another KO or TKO seems like a prudent prop bet.
The Pick: (Poirier at -125 & in Round 4 at +1400)

Co-Main Event Prediction: Welterweight Fight:
Stephen Thompson -170 vs Gilbert Burns +140

Thompson has not earned a knockout since a 2016 win over Johny Hendricks. He’s an intelligent fighter who knows how to pick up points and stay safe in the ring. He has just seven career KOs in 21 career fights. Burns has six KOs in 23 fights, although his most recent one was just last year. He’ll likely need to repeat that feat to get a win here, but the much more likely outcome is a decision for Thompson
The Pick: (Thompson at -170 & Decision or Technical decision at +150)
