Are you ready for the ultimate showdown between two of the best teams in the league? This Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers travel to Philadelphia to battle it out against the Eagles. Both sides have had impressive games, with Brock Purdy making history as only being the 3rd rookie quarterback to win his first two postseason starts. The 49ers have been bolstered by their defense this season, leading in total defense (300.6 Yards per game) and scoring defense (16.3 points per game). And Nick Bosa’s incredible performance of 18.5 sacks earned him a spot as a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year honors. Don’t miss out on this high-stakes match that could decide who moves onto glory.
These two are hands down the best defenses in the NFL. The Eagles led the NFL in opponent Yards per play allowed. But we found that the Eagles defense versus the Pass is where the opportunity lies for the Niners offense. Darius Slay and the Eagles defense have had a hard time locking down good receivers, such as Ceedee Lamb, Christian Watson & Terry McLaurin. As for the rest of the receivers they have faced, well they’re not even considered in the top 30 in the NFL. That’s where the Niners weapons come in with Deebo Samuels, CMC and George Kittle.
Another thing to consider, Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts is ranked 32nd in EPA Dropbacks versus zone and blitz coverage, which leads me to mention that the Niners are a run zone-heavy defense. The Niners are always in zone coverage and are top 5 in the NFL zone coverage percentage.
That said, I’m locked-in against the public here, I’ll be taking the Niners at +3 for my NFC championship free pick. Brock Purdy did look a little shaky in his last game versus the Cowboys, but I expect Kyle Shanahan to focus more on the pass off fence rather than the run. We also expect a lot of zone blitz from the Niners end cause the numbers show Hurts struggles against it.
