Anaheim vs Montreal NHL Preview & Pick

Moneyline: Montreal -147
Spread: Montreal -1.5 (+165)
Total: 6.5

Tired Legs, Angry Fans

Welcome to the NHL’s favorite scheduling trick. Two teams on a back to back skating around like they accidentally signed up for cardio class.

The Montreal Canadiens (-147) host the Anaheim Ducks, and the total sits at 6.5 goals, which basically means Bovada oddsmakers expect a couple defensive mistakes and one goalie wondering what went wrong.

Montreal enters the night after a 4-2 loss to San Jose that ended their three game win streak. Meanwhile Anaheim just got blanked 2-0 by Ottawa.

So yes. Momentum is not exactly overflowing here.

Perfect hockey chaos incoming.

Montreal Canadiens: Bounce Back Mode

The Canadiens remain in third place in the Atlantic Division, which means the fanbase is cautiously optimistic while simultaneously preparing for emotional damage.

Cole Caufield returned from illness and promptly scored his career high 38th goal, because apparently missing one game makes him stronger. Captain Nick Suzuki added another tally, while Noah Dobson chipped in two assists.

Montreal’s issue against San Jose wasn’t scoring. It was the small detail of letting the Sharks do whatever they wanted with the puck.

Which tends to be a problem in hockey.

Goalie Jakub Dobes made 17 saves, though he probably would have appreciated a bit more defensive assistance from the five people skating in front of him.

The biggest drama came with Brendan Gallagher being a healthy scratch for the first time in his 14 year career. The good news for Montreal fans is he’s expected back tonight, and Gallagher tends to play like someone who just read the comments section.

That usually means chaos.

Anaheim Ducks: Defense Missing Pieces

The Ducks arrive after losing 2-0 to Ottawa, which is impressive because they actually managed 23 shots and still couldn’t solve Linus Ullmark.

Sometimes hockey just does that to you.

Anaheim has dropped three of its last four games, and things got even more interesting when defenseman Radko Gudas began serving a five game suspension for a knee to knee hit that ended Auston Matthews’ season.

So yes, the Ducks defense is currently… under construction.

Goalie Ville Husso made 27 saves in the loss and kept Anaheim alive longer than expected. Meanwhile, newly acquired defenseman John Carlson might debut tonight after recovering from a lower body injury.

Carlson is 36 years old, which means he brings leadership, experience, and possibly stories about when hockey sticks were made of wood.

LVSB Betting Prediction

The betting line has Montreal at -147 with the total at 6.5 goals.

Montreal has the better offense, Anaheim is missing key pieces, and the Canadiens are back home where the crowd expects entertainment.

The Ducks will hang around early, but Montreal eventually pulls away thanks to Caufield and Suzuki creating chances.

Score Prediction: Canadiens 4, Ducks 2
Pick: Montreal -1.5 (+165)
Total: Under 6.5 (+115)
