Game Preview
Having finished the first half on a high note, the Arizona Diamondbacks are eager to continue their momentum as they start a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon.
The Diamondbacks closed out the first half with victories in four out of their last five games and posted a 10-5 record over the last two weeks, bringing them within a game of the final National League wild-card spot.
Despite a rough start to the season that saw them dip seven games below .500 by May 31, Arizona reached the All-Star break with a record of 49-48. This follows a challenging season last year where they fell to the Texas Rangers in the World Series.
"I’m proud of what we’ve been doing recently," said Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker. "I think we’ve put ourselves in a position to make a good run in the second half."
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, who led the NL All-Star team in a 5-3 defeat to the American League on Tuesday, encouraged his players to enjoy their break and spend time with family but to also stay prepared for a strong restart.
