Game Preview
The Arizona Diamondbacks, on a hot streak, have yet to lose a game started by ace Zac Gallen since the All-Star break, posing a significant challenge for the American League-leading Cleveland Guardians.
Gallen aims to extend the Diamondbacks’ recent success to 10 wins in 12 games and inflict a third straight loss on the Guardians. Arizona rallied from a four-run deficit on Sunday to defeat Pittsburgh 6-5, thanks to Joc Pederson’s three-run homer in the seventh inning. The Diamondbacks have surged to become serious wild-card contenders with a 15-5 record since July 10.
Gallen, who struggled early in July, has bounced back strongly with a 2.12 ERA in his post-All-Star break starts. He has been dominant in his recent outings, including a solid performance against Washington. He is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two career starts against Cleveland, including a strong showing in June 2023.
For the Guardians, who have cooled off after a hot streak, Jose Ramirez continues to perform well, batting .391 with five homers and 11 RBIs in his last six games. However, the Guardians have dropped their last two games, splitting a recent series with Baltimore after winning five straight.
With Tanner Bibee dealing with a shoulder issue and Alex Cobb still sidelined, Logan Allen will start the series opener for Cleveland. Allen, who has had mixed results this season, will look to stabilize the rotation after being recalled from Triple-A.
