Game Preview

The Boston Bruins are eyeing a third consecutive shutout as they visit the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.

Boston comes off a 2-0 win over the Seattle Kraken, where Jeremy Swayman made 23 saves, following a 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers with Joonas Korpisalo stopping 20 shots. These wins helped the Bruins rebound after losing five of their previous six games.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery noted, “Our game management needs work, but we’re on the right path. November has been a big improvement over October.”

The Maple Leafs have dropped their last two games on the road, including a 2-1 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild and a 4-2 defeat to the St. Louis Blues. Toronto’s scoring has been inconsistent, with two or fewer goals in six of their 13 games. Their power play also struggles, going 4-for-40 this season, though William Nylander scored their only goal on a power play against the Wild.

Auston Matthews, who leads the team in assists, hopes Nylander’s goal sparks their power-play production, stating, “It’s good for confidence. We’re moving the puck well, so hopefully this gets us rolling.”

Despite the losses, Toronto saw solid goaltending from Anthony Stolarz, who made 31 saves against Minnesota. “We committed to playing a heavy game and blocking shots,” Stolarz said.

While the Bruins have shown strong goaltending and defense, Montgomery seeks more consistency, saying, “We’re not yet a 60-minute team, and there are too many lapses in our game.”

In an effort to emphasize accountability, Montgomery benched David Pastrnak in the third period against Seattle after a turnover and poor line change. “That was a bad play,” Pastrnak acknowledged, taking full responsibility and aiming to avoid being a distraction.

Boston previously defeated Toronto 4-3 in an October 26 matchup, winning on Brad Marchand’s overtime goal. The Bruins will look to extend their defensive dominance, while the Maple Leafs aim to turn around their recent struggles.
