Game Preview

Martin Necas has been the driving force behind the Carolina Hurricanes’ success this season, as he carries a 13-game point streak into Wednesday’s clash with the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

During this remarkable stretch, Necas has tallied 10 goals and 17 assists, leading the team in both goals (11) and assists (19) across 17 games. With 30 points, he stands well ahead of his closest teammate, Andrei Svechnikov, who has 16 points. Necas showcased his dominance on Sunday with two goals and two assists in a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues, helping Carolina secure their 11th win in 13 games.

"Confidence is key," Necas said. "I’m trying to stay in the zone as long as I can. Our team’s 5-on-5 play has been outstanding, which makes it easier for everyone to contribute."

Eric Robinson added a goal and two assists in the win, while Svechnikov also found the net, demonstrating Carolina’s ability to secure victories even on off nights. "You won’t always have your best game," Robinson noted, "but great teams find ways to win."

On the other side, the Philadelphia Flyers are looking to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. Despite a late push with two third-period goals, the Flyers fell short after giving up three early goals.

"We made mistakes that hurt us," said Owen Tippett, who scored one of Philadelphia’s goals. "They’re a fast team, and we gave them too many chances."

Flyers coach John Tortorella was candid in his postgame comments: "We did some good things, but the mistakes we make are just frustrating. They need to be out of our game."

Philadelphia, now midway through a five-game homestand, had been riding a 4-0-1 streak before Monday’s loss. Forward Travis Konecny emphasized the importance of staying focused, saying, "We’ve been doing the right things and seeing results. We just need to avoid those slow starts."

These two teams last met on Nov. 5, when Necas delivered the game-winning goal with 31 seconds left in a 6-4 Hurricanes victory. Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour remains optimistic about his squad’s development.

"I like where we are right now," Brind’Amour said. "The new additions to the roster have embraced our system, and that’s why we’re finding success."

As Necas and the Hurricanes aim to extend their dominance, the Flyers will look to defend their home ice and stay competitive in the tough Metropolitan Division.
