Chicago Bears Breakdown
The Chicago Bears are marching into Lambeau Field like a team that suddenly discovered it can bench press a bus. After years of getting tossed around by Green Bay, Chicago snapped its painful 11 game losing streak in the rivalry last season, and apparently that was their superhero origin story. Now the Bears are 9 and 3, winners of five straight, and acting like someone finally took the training wheels off the franchise.
Caleb Williams is feeling himself too. The young quarterback says that win in Green Bay last year boosted his confidence, and he intends to share that confidence with his teammates. Chicago fans everywhere are hoping he does not share the completion percentage from last week because that would be contagious in the bad way. Williams hit 17 of 36 passes and has been roughly as accurate as a blindfolded toddler with a dart board. His receivers slipping and falling on routes did not help, but it was still not exactly clinic tape.
Ben Johnson, the new coach with all the creative juice, made the comment that the Bears are winning in spite of their passing game. Then he spent the next day trying to convince the world he totally did not mean it like that. Chicago has won by forcing turnovers at a ridiculous rate, holding a plus 17 turnover margin that would make even the 1985 Bears nod in approval.
The defense gets a boost with Jaylon Johnson returning from a groin injury and a truly wild recovery diet consisting solely of fruit and water for ten days. That is commitment or possibly madness, but either way he is back on the field.
Green Bay Packers Breakdown
Green Bay enters at 8, 3, and 1 and winners of three straight. The Packers are eager to shove Chicago back into the little brother role that Green Bay has lovingly assigned them for over a decade. The Packers believe they control their destiny, and safety Evan Williams says that if they play their best ball, no one can stay with them. Apparently confidence is contagious in Wisconsin too.
One very real reason for their swagger is Micah Parsons. The man has six sacks in his last three outings and is plowing through offensive lines like he is late for dinner. He now has twelve and a half sacks this season and continues to make quarterbacks rethink life.
These teams meet twice in fourteen days and both games could decide the NFC North title. Last season each matchup was settled on a field goal at the buzzer, so drama is basically guaranteed.
Prediction and Betting Outlook
Green Bay being favored by 7.0 points feels steep, but Chicago’s passing struggles and Green Bay’s momentum justify it. The Bears defense will keep things interesting, but the Packers pass rush and home field edge are tough to overcome.
The total at 44 looks right in the sweet spot for a grinding NFC North battle with a few explosive swings mixed in.
