Game Preview

No. 2 Georgia seems to have regained its momentum just in time for Saturday’s high-stakes rivalry game against Florida.

After a setback on Sept. 28 against then-No. 4 Alabama, the Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 SEC) have rebounded with three straight wins, including an impressive 30-15 victory over then-No. 1 Texas on Oct. 19. Now, aiming to secure a fourth consecutive SEC Championship Game appearance, Georgia will face off against the Gators for the 103rd time in Jacksonville, Fla.

Coming off a bye week, the Bulldogs were able to reset and refine their game. Head Coach Kirby Smart noted the week gave the team a valuable opportunity to focus on targeted drills, situational plays, and strategic improvements.

Quarterback Carson Beck has had a mixed season but still holds two of Georgia’s top five single-game passing records. While he’s thrown eight interceptions this season, Smart continues to express confidence in Beck’s leadership and work ethic, highlighting his strong presence both in practice and on the field.

Smart emphasizes the importance of the Georgia-Florida rivalry, ranking it among the top matchups for the Bulldogs every season.

Florida (4-3, 2-2) has also shown signs of a resurgence after a tough start. Since sitting at 1-2 after a Sept. 14 loss to Texas A&M, the Gators have won three of their last four games, including a commanding 48-20 win over Kentucky on Oct. 19.

Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway has stepped up for Florida following starter Graham Mertz’s season-ending ACL injury. In his first start, Lagway threw for 259 yards and added 46 yards on the ground. Head Coach Billy Napier emphasized that experience is key for the young QB, noting the extensive practice sessions to build his confidence and situational awareness.

In a rivalry largely dominated by Georgia in recent years, the Bulldogs have taken six of the last seven meetings, with their only loss to Florida coming in 2020.
