Game Preview

No. 16 Ole Miss faces a major hurdle in its College Football Playoff pursuit as it prepares to host No. 3 Georgia, a perennial SEC and national powerhouse.

The Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1 SEC) aim to solidify their bid for a fourth consecutive SEC Championship appearance, sitting in the top three of the season’s initial CFP rankings. Meanwhile, Ole Miss (7-2, 3-2) ranks outside the top four but remains in contention.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin is embracing the challenge, saying, "Anybody that’s going to win it will likely have to go through Georgia." The Rebels’ star quarterback, Jaxson Dart, leads the nation with 3,210 passing yards and an impressive efficiency rating. Dart and his team aim to redeem last year’s 52-17 loss to Georgia.

Georgia’s defense is riding high after back-to-back solid performances, most recently allowing just 228 yards to Florida. However, Ole Miss’ potent offense, ranked second in yards per game (555.4) and fourth in points (42.1), poses the toughest challenge for the Bulldogs this season.

Georgia (9-1) seeks to extend its winning streak, coming off a 34-20 win over Florida. Quarterback Carson Beck, despite some inconsistency, threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns, bringing his season total to 2,302 passing yards, third in the SEC.

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart praised Beck’s overall play but emphasized the need to avoid costly mistakes. "He made 68 winning decisions out of 73 snaps, but the turnovers need to be minimized," Smart noted.

Georgia holds the historical edge in this matchup, with an all-time series lead of 33-12-1, winning 11 of the last 12 games against Ole Miss.
