Houston Astros Betting Preview

The Astros are barely hanging onto their division lead and enter this series trying to shake off a cold stretch. After a red-hot June that saw them go 24-8, Houston has dropped 16 of their last 25. Their latest setback came in a 6-4 loss to Miami, where they squandered scoring chances despite racking up 12 hits.

Offensively, things haven’t been the problem. Houston hit .375 with runners in scoring position during their series against the Marlins. Carlos Correa has looked sharp since rejoining the team, hitting .346 over his last 26 at-bats. Christian Walker has also come alive with three home runs in six games.

Hunter Brown (9-5, 2.47 ERA) gets the start and continues to be a stabilizing force in the rotation. He’s held opponents to one run or fewer in 13 starts this season and owns a 3.21 ERA in three career outings against New York.

New York Yankees Betting Preview

The Yankees are reeling and desperate to turn the corner. After losing five of six on the road, they limped back to the Bronx just 6.5 games out of a playoff spot with 47 left to play. Since late May, New York has fallen apart, going just 26-34 and watching a once-strong division lead evaporate.

They did manage to avoid a sweep Wednesday, sneaking out a 3-2 win thanks to a clutch homer by Paul Goldschmidt and a gritty save from David Bednar. Still, the offense has looked stale, and blown leads have haunted them, most notably a six-run collapse in Miami last week.

Rookie Cam Schlittler (1-2, 4.58 ERA) will get the nod Friday. He’s coming off a five-inning, two-homer performance in Miami and has yet to face Houston in his young career.

Betting Outlook & Prediction

This is a matchup of two struggling teams heading in the wrong direction, but only one has a proven arm on the mound. With Hunter Brown dealing and Houston’s bats showing more life lately, the Astros have the edge. The Yankees’ offense remains inconsistent, and betting on a rookie to hold down Houston’s lineup is risky.

Score Prediction: Astros 5, Yankees 2
Pick: Houston (-118)
Total: Under 8.0 (-105)  – With two capable starters and cold streaks on both sides.
