Indiana Fever Breakdown
Caitlin Clark heads west, and she’s heating up at just the right time. After missing five games with a quad injury, the sharpshooting rookie phenom returned with a vengeance. She dropped 32 points against the Liberty and followed it with 20 more versus the Sun, while knocking down a sizzling 11-of-20 from deep since returning. Indiana, now on a roll, has scored 102 and 88 points in back-to-back wins.
The Fever enter this matchup with confidence, but also some edge. Tuesday’s chippy battle against Connecticut saw tempers flare, Clark picked up a tech, and Sophie Cunningham got tossed. Head coach Stephanie White wasn’t shy either, voicing frustrations with the officiating. Still, Indiana has won three straight and looks focused as they begin their West Coast trip.
With the league’s most dangerous shooter back at full speed, and Indiana’s offense clicking, they’re built to cover the 11-point spread against an undermanned opponent.
Golden State Valkyries Breakdown
Golden State returns home looking to reset after an 80-71 road loss to Dallas. It snapped a three-game win streak and exposed the toll of a thin rotation. With four players away for EuroBasket, coach Natalie Nakase ran with just eight players in Dallas, and the team ran out of steam.
Kayla Thornton remains the engine for this expansion squad, dropping 17 in the loss, but it’s clear the Valkyries need reinforcements. One addition came Wednesday with the signing of Bree Hall, a two-time NCAA champion out of South Carolina. But it may take time for Hall and other recent signings to gel.
Despite the setback, Golden State still boasts one of the W’s stingiest 3-point defenses (allowing just 34.1% from beyond the arc). That’ll be tested to the limit against Clark and the red-hot Fever offense.
Prediction:
The Fever are playing their best ball of the season, while the Valkyries are piecing together a temporary lineup. Expect Indiana to control the pace and wear down Golden State.
