Game Preview

The Houston Texans’ passing game was expected to be a strong point in 2024, but last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers highlighted some key issues. C.J. Stroud threw for a mere 86 yards and took four sacks in a 24-22 loss, far below his usual output. As the Texans prepare to host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, they’re looking to bounce back and tighten their hold on the AFC South.

With Jacksonville at 2-5 and Tennessee even further behind, Houston (5-2) could take a decisive lead in the division with a win over Indianapolis (4-3), who they already defeated once this season. Coach DeMeco Ryans emphasized the need to improve protection and execution, particularly after dropped passes, including a touchdown, hurt them against Green Bay.

Despite the recent setback, Stroud still boasts a solid 66.4 percent completion rate with 1,663 passing yards and 10 touchdowns. Stefon Diggs leads the team with 42 catches, but the Texans are without Nico Collins, their yardage leader, who remains on injured reserve. Collins torched the Colts for 117 yards in Week 1, taking advantage of Diggs’ coverage.

Indianapolis, meanwhile, is riding a two-game winning streak, including a 16-10 victory over Miami, and looks set to regain running back Jonathan Taylor, who’s been sidelined with an ankle injury. Taylor’s return, after rushing for 349 yards in the first four games, should provide a big boost to an offense that has struggled in the air recently. Quarterback Anthony Richardson, returning from an oblique injury, completed just 10 of 24 passes last week.

On the defensive front, the Colts may be without key contributors like DeForest Buckner and Cameron McGrone. For Houston, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and safety Jimmie Ward will miss Sunday’s game, while Henry To’oTo’o is questionable with a concussion.

With a mix of injuries, potential comebacks, and high stakes in the AFC South, Sunday’s showdown promises plenty of action for bettors and fans alike.
