Game Preview

The Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL’s only undefeated team, will look to keep their perfect record alive as they visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

The Chiefs (6-0) haven’t seen defeat since Christmas, when they fell to the Raiders 20-14. Now they’re bringing a new weapon to Las Vegas: wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, acquired from the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. While Hopkins has had a slow season so far with 15 catches for 173 yards and a touchdown, the three-time All-Pro brings a history of over 1,000-yard seasons, including last year’s impressive 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns.

Kansas City’s receiving corps could use the boost, as JuJu Smith-Schuster will miss Sunday’s game after reinjuring his hamstring in last week’s 28-18 win over the 49ers. Rashee Rice, out for the season with a knee injury, leaves another gap for Mahomes’ offense.

Mahomes expressed excitement about Hopkins joining the lineup, anticipating he’ll make an impact right away: “Our coaches are great at getting guys ready fast,” he said, hoping to see Hopkins suited up this weekend.

Raiders coach Antonio Pierce acknowledged the challenge Hopkins brings but emphasized the Chiefs’ offense still runs through Travis Kelce and rookie Xavier Worthy. Kansas City’s offense, though effective, has had a quieter season compared to years past. Mahomes has just six touchdown passes, while Kelce leads the team with 28 catches and Worthy has put up 288 receiving yards.

On the other side, the Raiders (2-5) are in a three-game slump. Last week’s 20-15 loss to the Rams was marred by four turnovers, including three interceptions by Gardner Minshew. Pierce expects a tough battle with Kansas City’s defense, which ranks fourth in points allowed and brings aggressive play, even if they’re blitzing less this season.

Las Vegas will be without guard Dylan Parham (foot), and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who’s missed two games with an ankle injury, is questionable. Tight end Harrison Bryant and linebackers Tommy Eichenberg and Kana’i Mauga are also questionable for Sunday’s matchup.

On Kansas City’s side, defensive end Michael Danna will miss the game with a pectoral injury.
