Seattle’s Playoff Push Gets Powered by Woo and Friends
Moneyline: Seattle -217
Spread: Milwaukee -1.5 (-105)
Total: 7.5
The Setup: Angels vs. Mariners, Saturday Night Baseball
If the Los Angeles Angels were a TV show, they’d be the late-season episodes of The Office without Steve Carell, still watchable, but you’re just wondering how this got renewed. Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners are pushing for a playoff run, and they’ve got their pitching rotation acting like bodyguards at a nightclub: “Sorry, Angels, you’re not on the list.”
Los Angeles Angels: Can They Find the On Switch?
The Angels roll into Seattle dragging a three-game losing streak like a suitcase with one broken wheel. Jo Adell is trying to keep them relevant with 35 home runs, but his supporting cast looks like they accidentally wandered in from a beer-league softball tournament. Zach Neto is colder than a freezer aisle popsicle, hitting 5-for-33 over his last 10.
Pitching-wise, rookie Mitch Farris (1-0, 2.45 ERA) actually looks like he belongs in the majors, but will he be facing a buzzsaw lineup or the Mariners’ occasional “swing-and-miss at beach balls” version? Stay tuned.
Seattle Mariners: Woo-hoo for Woo
Seattle’s got Bryan Woo (13-7, 3.02 ERA) on the bump, and he’s been cooking with precision. Woo has 178 strikeouts, which is a polite way of saying “the man ruins hitters’ weekends.”
Offensively, Josh Naylor has been steady, while Jorge Polanco is heating up with 14 hits in his last 35 at-bats. The Mariners are also playing their best baseball in September, going 7-3 in their last 10 while outscoring opponents by 23 runs.
At home, they’ve been tougher than your grandma’s meatloaf, 46-27 at T-Mobile Park. With the crowd behind them, Seattle’s lineup looks a lot less like a coin flip and more like a slot machine that finally pays out.
The Prediction: Bring the Brooms?
The Angels need a miracle, maybe divine intervention, or at least a few Mariners forgetting how to swing a bat. Unfortunately, the numbers and vibes are all pointing toward Seattle keeping their wild-card push alive.
