Game Preview

The San Diego Padres are sticking with what works as they aim to eliminate the Los Angeles Dodgers from the National League Division Series for the second time in three seasons. After dropping the series opener, the Padres rallied to win three straight last year and have now secured two consecutive victories in the current matchup, including a 6-5 win at home on Tuesday, all thanks to a big second inning.

With both teams low on starting pitchers, Game 4 promises to be interesting. The Padres are giving right-hander Dylan Cease the nod on three days’ rest after his earlier outing. "Dylan’s ready to go; we’ll see how effective he can be," Padres manager Mike Shildt said, noting Cease’s enthusiasm for the challenge.

In his previous start, Cease struggled, allowing five runs over just 3.1 innings, but he has a solid season record of 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are opting for a bullpen approach, indicating that "all hands are on deck," according to manager Dave Roberts.

After a dominating Game 2 where the Padres hit six homers, their offense continued to shine in Game 3, highlighted by a two-run double from former Dodger David Peralta and a two-run homer from Fernando Tatis Jr., who has been on fire this postseason. Tatis has hit four homers in five games and is batting .555 since the playoffs started.

Despite some off-field drama in Game 2, the Padres showed resilience on Tuesday, with their bullpen shutting down the Dodgers after they pulled within one run. The Padres retired 16 straight batters following a grand slam from Teoscar Hernandez.

Injuries are also affecting the Dodgers, with both shortstop Miguel Rojas and first baseman Freddie Freeman dealing with issues. Freeman is assessing his readiness for Game 4.

As the series heats up, the stakes are high, making it a thrilling matchup for bettors to keep an eye on.
