Game Preview
After suffering a narrow 82-80 defeat against the title-contending Connecticut Sun on Friday, the Chicago Sky are eager to kick off a three-game homestand, starting with a matchup against the reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces on Sunday.
The Sky (11-17) are focused on maintaining their resolve against any opponent, as demonstrated by their comeback against the Sun, where they rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to lead 64-63 entering the fourth quarter.
Chicago will need to carry that same determination into the game against the Aces (17-11), who are looking to break a two-game losing streak, just like the Sky.
"It’s about building resilience and never giving up," said guard Lindsay Allen, who scored 14 points. "Being down 10 at halftime, we knew we had 20 minutes to turn it around, and we did. Starting each quarter strong is crucial. We need to keep playing hard for one another."
The first quarter ended in a 17-17 tie, but the Sun pulled ahead to lead 45-35 by halftime.
Chennedy Carter led the Sky with 19 points, Kamilla Cardoso contributed a career-high 18 points, and standout rookie Angel Reese matched her career-high with 20 rebounds to go along with 13 points. She is the first player in WNBA history to record back-to-back games with 20 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Aces are coming off an 87-74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, despite A’ja Wilson’s 24-point effort. Wilson is averaging an impressive 26.8 points per game this season.
Las Vegas managed to cut a 17-point deficit down to four with 6:14 remaining but could not close the gap further.
This marks the Aces’ worst record at this point in the season since 2019 when they were 19-11. However, Wilson remains optimistic, confident in her and her team’s abilities. The Aces are currently 1-1 against Chicago this season.
"I believe we can string together the little things," Wilson stated after the game. "I’ll always be there for my teammates and continue to bet on us, no matter the circumstances."
