Game Preview

While the Las Vegas Aces are the two-time reigning champions, the Minnesota Lynx have outperformed them in their last two encounters. The Aces have also suffered double-digit defeats in two of their last three games, while the Lynx are currently sitting just behind the New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun in the overall standings.

Following an impressive offensive display that led to a victory over the Aces on Wednesday, the Lynx (20-8) are set to face them again on Friday in Minneapolis for the final matchup of the regular season.

Earlier this week, Minnesota triumphed 98-87 in Las Vegas, showcasing remarkable shooting stats. They achieved season highs in field-goal percentage (59.4), 3-point percentage (57.9), and total field goals made (38). This came just after they scored 99 points in a win against the Washington Mystics.

"We know what we’re capable of," said Lynx guard Courtney Williams. "We felt that energy during training camp, and now everyone else is starting to notice it."

The game was closely contested until the Lynx pulled ahead in the second quarter with a 10-0 run, making it difficult for the Aces to recover. Napheesa Collier led the Lynx with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Williams contributed 22 points, 10 assists, and seven boards. All five starters reached double figures, and Myisha Hines-Allen made a notable impact in her debut off the bench with eight points and four rebounds.

For the Aces, Jackie Young scored 26 points, and Kelsey Plum added 20, but the focus shifted to their defense, which has struggled this season. Las Vegas previously allowed a season-high 100 points to Minnesota in June and ranks seventh in scoring defense (83.0 ppg) and last in 3-point percentage allowed (36.2).

"I don’t care about our ranking," said Aces coach Becky Hammon. "Whether we’re in a hole or at the top, we need to play defense."

A’ja Wilson, the Aces’ MVP frontrunner, was limited to 15 points and nine rebounds, ending her streak of eight consecutive games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Interestingly, the visiting team has won all three matchups this season, offering the Aces a glimmer of hope after their earlier 80-66 victory in Minneapolis in May.
