Game Preview

As the season began, few would have guessed that Saturday’s Big Ten showdown between Michigan and Indiana in Bloomington would feature a Top 10 playoff contender facing an unranked opponent. Surprisingly, it’s Indiana (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten), not Michigan, vying for a College Football Playoff spot and conference title as they prepare to host the Wolverines (5-4, 3-3).

Ranked No. 8 in the first CFP rankings, Indiana remains focused on their main goal. Head coach Curt Cignetti emphasized maintaining focus amid the excitement, stating, “The only thing that matters is getting the result on game day.” The Hoosiers are on an unprecedented 9-0 run, chasing their first 10-win season and only their second win over Michigan since 1987.

Indiana, a two-touchdown favorite, aims to build on last week’s commanding 47-10 victory over Michigan State, where quarterback Kurtis Rourke threw for 263 yards and four touchdowns after returning from a thumb injury. Rourke has posted 2,204 passing yards and 19 touchdowns with only three interceptions, leading a Hoosiers offense that will challenge Michigan’s inconsistent defense.

The Wolverines, who have lost three of their last four games, are coming off a tough 38-17 loss to No. 1 Oregon, allowing 470 total yards. Head coach Sherrone Moore acknowledged Indiana’s strengths, praising their disciplined, physical style on both sides of the ball.

Michigan, dealing with injuries, hopes for the return of top cornerbacks Will Johnson and Jyaire Hill.
