Minnesota vs Seattle NHL Preview & Pick

Minnesota Wild Breakdown

So it finally happened. Jesper Wallstedt, the Minnesota rookie goaltending wizard who had looked as close to invincible as a human in oversized pads can look, finally took a regulation loss. Vancouver handed him a four to two defeat and reminded the world that even rookies blessed by the hockey gods occasionally get pickpocketed behind the net like they wandered into a mall on Black Friday.

Minnesota’s twelve game point streak is over and they have now dropped two straight. Still Wallstedt sits at eight wins, one loss and two overtime losses which is better than some veteran goalies manage in two months. He admitted he fought the screens poorly and made one ill advised play behind the net that Aatu Raty pounced on like a hungry raccoon discovering an open garbage can. Then the rookie simply shrugged it off and basically said hey lesson learned, moving on. Not bad for a kid who just tied the fourth longest point streak by a rookie to start a season in league history.

Offensively the Wild continue to get consistent production. Matt Boldy grabbed a goal and an assist to reach thirty one points, which is right behind Kirill Kaprizov who is doing his usual magic trick of making defenders question their life choices. Coach John Hynes felt his team deserved a better result, which is hockey speak for we worked hard and then shot ourselves in the foot.

Minnesota wraps up its four game trip in Seattle and the matchup looks favorable if they can simply avoid gifting goals.

Seattle Kraken Breakdown

Seattle is currently in the final stretch of a five game misery tour. They have lost five straight and have been outscored twenty to nine in their last four. The offense is so quiet you could probably hear the concession stand ice machine over it. Jaden Schwartz is out for several weeks and Jordan Eberle leads the team in scoring with eight goals which is not exactly terrifying for an opponent.

Brandon Montour summed it up nicely when he said the Kraken have a hard time scoring. He suggested shooting more pucks at the net which is a bold and revolutionary strategy that might just catch on in the hockey world. The good news is both Montour and Adam Larsson scored last game which at least proves the team remembers how to do it.

Seattle players insist they are close to breaking out of it and Larsson said their last performance was a big improvement. That is the attitude you want from a team that keeps skating into brick walls, and they will certainly be hoping the Wild arrive still frustrated from their last two losses.

Prediction and Betting Outlook

Minnesota has the stronger roster, the better recent form, and the more reliable offense. Seattle is scrappy but scoring like a team trying to win games two to one without actually playing two to one defense. The Wild should bounce back and close their road trip on a positive note.

The total of 5.5 sits right on the edge, but given Seattle’s struggles and Wallstedt’s pride after a rare mistake, this leans toward a steady but not explosive scoring pace.

Score Prediction: Wild 3, Kraken 2
Pick: Minnesota (-133)
Total: Under 5.5 (-122)
