Game Preview
Bailey Ober of the Minnesota Twins and Cody Bradford of the Texas Rangers will lead their teams into the opener of a four-game series in Arlington on Thursday, each bringing solid performances to the mound.
Ober (12-5, 3.52 ERA) is on a hot streak, having won his last four starts. He most recently threw six scoreless innings in a 4-2 win against the Cleveland Guardians last Friday. Ober has delivered nine straight quality starts, the longest run by a Twins pitcher since Johan Santana’s 21-game streak in 2004. Over his last nine games, Ober is 7-1 with a 1.76 ERA.
Ober has faced the Rangers twice before, with a 1-0 record and a 7.00 ERA. His win came on May 24 in Minnesota, where he allowed two runs and four hits over five innings.
Bradford (4-0, 3.60 ERA) is also riding high, having limited the New York Yankees to one run and five hits over five innings in a 9-4 win last Saturday. Bradford, who grew up a Rangers fan, described pitching at Yankee Stadium as a dream come true.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy praised Bradford’s preparation and in-game adjustments. Bradford, who missed over three months earlier this season due to injuries, finds success by working his fastball inside against right-handers, which helps open up the outer half of the plate.
Bradford has faced the Twins twice in relief, pitching two scoreless innings and earning a win.
The Twins may be without center fielder Byron Buxton due to a hip injury, with a decision pending on whether he will need a stint on the 10-day injured list. The Rangers are returning home from a 2-4 road trip, including a 9-7 extra-innings win over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. The Twins ended a 4-3 homestand with a 4-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals.
