WNBA Preview and Prediction: Minnesota Lynx vs. Dallas Wings

Spread: Minnesota -9.5 | Total: 167.5

Minnesota Lynx Outlook

The Lynx enter Sunday’s Commissioner’s Cup clash as strong 9.5-point favorites with the total set at 167.5. Minnesota remains the only unbeaten team in the league at 8-0 and has already taken the first two meetings against Dallas this season, one at home and one on the road.

Minnesota is coming off a convincing 88-65 win over Phoenix where they dominated defensively and moved the ball with surgical precision. Their elite assist rate, leading the league at nearly 78% shows just how committed they are to unselfish, high-IQ basketball. Head coach Cheryl Reeve emphasized that their effort against Phoenix was arguably their most complete defensive showing yet.

This team doesn’t just win, they control the tempo, share the ball, and crush opponents in the second half. With playoff-level chemistry and depth, the Lynx are rolling and show no signs of letting up.

Dallas Wings Outlook

On the other side, Dallas is trending in the opposite direction. The Wings have lost eight of nine to start the season and have dropped four in a row, most recently falling 93-79 to Los Angeles.

Injuries have crippled their backcourt, with rookie standout Paige Bueckers and point guard Tyasha Harris both sidelined due to concussions. Neither is expected to suit up on Sunday, continuing to leave the Wings without a true floor general.

That void has been costly. Head coach Chris Koclanes admitted that the Sparks exposed their lack of point guard leadership more than any team yet. While Dallas is getting solid contributions from players like DiJonai Carrington and JJ Quinerly, it hasn’t been enough to stay competitive for four quarters.

Prediction

Minnesota is simply operating on another level right now, both offensively and defensively. Dallas, still missing key players and lacking direction on the court, is unlikely to keep this one close. Expect the Lynx to assert control early and cover the spread with ease.
