Canadiens vs Predators Preview & Prediction

Moneyline Favorite: Montreal -117 | Total: 6.0 Goals

The Montreal Canadiens head into Sunday’s matchup against the Nashville Predators as slight road favorites on the moneyline, listed at -117, with the total set at 6.0. With the postseason in sight, Montreal has everything to play for — while Nashville continues to drift through the final stretch with little motivation.

Montreal Canadiens Outlook

The Canadiens (37-30-9, 83 points) are red-hot at the right time, riding a four-game winning streak and holding onto the Eastern Conference’s second wild-card spot. They sit four points ahead of the New York Rangers with just six games left, making every contest a must-win.

Saturday’s 3-2 comeback win over the Flyers showed off Montreal’s resiliency, as they erased a 1-0 deficit with a strong third period. Captain Nick Suzuki continued his scorching pace, scoring the game-winner and extending his goal streak to four games. He’s posted five goals and nine points during that span, and his chemistry with young linemates Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky is clicking at the perfect time.

Montreal’s balanced attack and improved third-period execution make them a dangerous team right now. With momentum and playoff pressure fueling their effort, expect another focused performance.

Nashville Predators Overview

The Predators (27-41-8, 62 points) have been out of the playoff hunt for some time and continue to underwhelm. They’ve dropped five straight, including a lackluster 5-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. With nothing to play for and little intensity, Nashville looks like a team just waiting for the season to end.

Coach Andrew Brunette was absent from Saturday’s practice due to personal reasons, adding to the lack of stability. There is some intrigue, however, with the potential debut of first-round pick Matthew Wood. At 6-foot-5, the 2023 draftee could bring a spark, but banking on a rookie debut to change the team’s fortunes is a long shot.

Betting Prediction

Montreal enters with far more urgency and form, while Nashville is limping to the finish line. The Canadiens are surging behind Suzuki’s leadership and a cohesive team effort, whereas the Preds continue to fall short on both ends of the ice.

Pick: Montreal Canadiens ML (-117)
Score Prediction: Montreal 5, Nashville 2
Lean: Over 6.0 (-115), given the Habs’ late-game scoring and Nashville’s defensive lapses.

Montreal should handle business here and inch one step closer to locking down their playoff spot.
