Ah yes, the Los Angeles Kings. A team that treats regulation like a suggestion. Thirty one overtime games this season. Thirty one. At this point, they should just skip the first 60 minutes and head straight to bonus hockey.
They just beat Toronto 7 to 6 in overtime, which is less of a hockey game and more of a fire drill. Defense optional, vibes mandatory. Quinton Byfield showed up though, scoring twice and suddenly looking like the guy they hoped for all along.
Adrian Kempe is basically begging for consistency, which is fair because this team plays like two completely different squads depending on the period. Coach D.J. Smith is talking about accountability, which usually means someone is about to get mysteriously benched.
Still, they are at home, they can score, and somehow they keep finding ways to grab points even when things look chaotic.
Nashville Predators: Lead Blowing Specialists
Nashville is out here playing rollercoaster hockey and calling it a strategy. They just blew a three goal lead against San Jose and then casually decided to score three more and win anyway. Totally normal behavior.
They sit tied in points with the Kings but hold the tiebreaker, which basically means they get to feel slightly superior while still being equally stressed.
Filip Forsberg and company are doing enough offensively, but this team loves making things harder than they need to be. Coach Andrew Brunette says there is belief right now, which is great, but maybe try believing in holding a lead for once.
They already beat the Kings in a shootout recently, so they know they can hang. The question is whether they can avoid turning this into another chaotic track meet.
