Florida Panthers Betting Preview
Florida comes back home feeling pretty good after dropping an eight spot on the Vancouver Canucks. The Panthers had their best offensive showing of the season with eight goals, forty one shots and only fifteen shots allowed. Sixteen different players recorded a point, which is basically a hockey version of Oprah yelling you get a point at everyone on the bench.
Of course, there was one catch. Vancouver still scored five times despite barely shooting the puck. Sergei Bobrovsky has generally been strong this season, but his occasional blowup games keep showing up. Even so, Florida is expected to start him again Thursday with a quality opponent coming in.
The Panthers’ power play is cooking, converting six times in the last four games. They will need that momentum again, especially with key injuries piling up. Cole Schwindt broke his arm in a collision with Bobrovsky and Eetu Luostarinen is recovering from a bizarre barbecue accident. Jack Devine will make his NHL debut Thursday to help patch the lineup.
Florida’s top offensive driver has been Brad Marchand, who is on an eight game point streak and leads the team in both goals and points. If the Panthers can keep creating high danger looks while tightening up defensively, they will be in position to keep rolling at home.
New Jersey Devils Betting Preview
New Jersey arrives looking to shake off a rough performance in Tampa. The Devils outshot the Lightning badly early on but still dug themselves into a three goal hole. Their special teams were a problem too, going zero for four on the power play while Tampa struck twice with the man advantage.
The Devils’ power play has been ice cold, going two for twenty in its last eight games. That is the wrong trend heading into a building where Florida has been sharp with the extra attacker.
Jacob Markstrom struggled again Tuesday, surrendering five goals, and his numbers this season reflect it. Jake Allen is likely to get the nod and has been far more stable, posting strong percentages and offering the Devils a real chance to settle things down.
Jesper Bratt continues to carry the offensive load with eighteen points, but the absence of Jack Hughes remains massive. The Devils can still play fast and aggressive, but without Hughes the scoring ceiling takes a big hit.
NHL Betting Edge & Prediction
Florida is dealing with injuries, but their offense is rolling, their power play is hot and Bobrovsky tends to bounce back well after rough nights. New Jersey can skate with anyone, but their special teams slump and inconsistent goaltending make this matchup tough.
Expect Florida to control tempo and generate enough offense to secure another home win.
