Game Preview
Dak Prescott and Derek Carr, quarterbacks often critiqued for their playoff performances, face each other this week as the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints, both starting the season strong, seek to solidify their postseason credentials.
“I’m focusing on beating Derek Carr and the Saints,” said Prescott. “Playoffs are a future concern. It’s about staying in the moment, taking it one game at a time.”
Dallas (1-0) enters their home opener on a 16-game regular-season home winning streak after dispatching Cleveland 33-17. Meanwhile, New Orleans (1-0) impressed with the highest score in Week 1, demolishing Carolina 47-10.
Despite three consecutive playoff appearances, Dallas hasn’t advanced beyond the divisional round since their last Super Bowl win in the 1995 season. Carr, 33, only boasts two playoff appearances and a single game played due to a late-season injury during his best run in nine years with the Raiders.
Now with the Saints, Carr looks to build on a promising end to last season after narrowly missing the playoffs due to tiebreakers.
Saints coach Dennis Allen expressed his respect for both quarterbacks. “Having prepared against both and seen Derek in our building, I know what they bring to the game,” Allen remarked.
Prescott recently cemented his status in Dallas with a record-breaking $240 million contract extension, including $231 million guaranteed, making him the first NFL player with an average annual value of $60 million.
“You don’t hand out a contract like that unless you’re confident in your guy,” Allen noted. “Playing against him is always a challenge, and frankly, it’s costing me sleep.”
The two quarterbacks, each at a pivotal point in their careers, are set to clash in what promises to be a defining game for their season trajectories.
