Game Preview

The New York Liberty are on a four-game winning streak and are approaching the WNBA playoffs as the potential top seed, facing the Dallas Wings in Arlington, Texas, this Thursday.

This matchup marks their second meeting in three days. The Liberty (30-6) previously dominated the Wings 105-91 on Tuesday, bolstered by Breanna Stewart’s 27 points. They hold the league’s best record, leading Minnesota by three games with only four games left in the regular season battle for the No. 1 seed.

The Liberty and Lynx, who have split their season series, will compete once more this Sunday in Brooklyn. Remarkably, New York has matched a WNBA record by securing 30 wins in just 36 games, a feat only matched by Las Vegas in 2023.

Jonquel Jones contributed 19 points in Tuesday’s game, while Leonie Fiebich matched her career high with 16 points. Sabrina Ionescu delivered a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists, and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton added 10 points as the Liberty achieved a season-high 33 assists and hit over 55% from beyond the arc.

Liberty coach Sandy Brondello emphasized the importance of focus as the playoffs approach, stating, “Every game is crucial. We’ve aimed all season for the No. 1 seed. We are still pushing to improve with each of the next four games leading into the playoffs.”

Meanwhile, the Wings (9-27) are looking to disrupt plans despite being eliminated from playoff contention. They trailed early against the Liberty and couldn’t recover, with Dallas’s Arike Ogunbowale leading their effort with 23 points and Natasha Howard adding 21.

Coach Latricia Trammell expressed her team’s continued commitment to competing fiercely, aiming to challenge opponents in their final games of the season.
