Game Preview
The New York Yankees, fueled by a powerful offense, will aim for their fourth straight win when they face the Philadelphia Phillies again on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Yankees overwhelmed the Phillies 14-4 in the first game of their three-game series, thanks to a six-homer explosion. Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. both hit two home runs and drove in three runs each. It was Judge’s third multi-homer game of the season and the 37th of his career.
Ben Rice also homered and had a single, Anthony Volpe added a two-run homer and a single, Austin Wells contributed a two-run triple, and Juan Soto doubled twice, singled, and had three RBIs.
"We jumped on a few good pitches and built an early lead," Judge said after the game. "It was a great night overall."
Gerrit Cole (3-2, 5.40 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees on Tuesday, aiming to rebound from a rough outing. Cole struggled last Wednesday, giving up eight hits and six runs in 5 2/3 innings against the New York Mets, citing inconsistent command.
"I’m frustrated with that performance," Cole admitted. "But we need to move past it and focus on the next game."
Cole has a solid track record against the Phillies, with a 6-3 record and a 2.90 ERA in nine career starts against them.
The Phillies, despite holding the best record in the majors at 65-41, are on the brink of their fifth consecutive series loss. On Monday, Brandon Marsh hit a home run and drove in two runs, Bryson Stott had two hits, and Kyle Schwarber walked three times. However, the Phillies struggled with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-8 and leaving seven men on base.
