Ohio State won the inaugural CFP championship in 2014 and they’ve been dying to win another one ever since. The SEC has dominated the title race with three teams having won five of the next seven and the ACC’s Clemson having won two others.
The Buckeyes have had a team good enough to compete for the title pretty much every year since then and every year they fall short.
Last year broke a four-year streak of winning the Big-Ten and competing in the CFP. Michigan finally managed to take them down, even though they went 10-2 in the regular season, 8-1 in conference play and they picked up a memorable Rose Bowl win as well.
Now, a hungry and talented Ohio State teams looks to get back to the very pinnacle of the sport.
They’re likely to have one of, if not the top offensive team in the nation and they are hoping they did enough to fix the defense and get enough stops in key moments in order to take those final steps to glory.

Odds to win the 2022-23 NCAA Championship: 3/1
The defense has a new coordinator as Oklahoma State’s Jim Knowles takes over and he simply has to get his uber talented group to come together. They have multiple options to rush the passer who have NFL caliber talent and the same can be said at linebacker and in the secondary. It really is a matter of getting all the pieces to fit together.
Given how dominant the offense is likely to be and how motivated that defense is going to be to hold up their end of the bargain, this is a bet worth making. Plus, if they beat fifth ranked Notre Dame in week one, these odds are going to seem like a steal.
The Verdict: Worth a bet
Odds to win the 2022 Big Ten Conference: -215
It’s a challenging schedule that includes a trip to Michigan State and welcoming Wisconsin to town. That’s on top of a match up with the Fighting Irish and the yearly battle with Michigan. But this team has what it takes to come out on top.
The Verdict: Worth a bet
Odds to win the 2022 Big Ten East Division: -333
The expensive odds make betting harder to endorse, the farther down the list you go. At these odds, you’ll need to invest some decent coin to get a good return. That is the only reason to consider putting your money elsewhere.
Hosting Michigan this year in the season finale in what might be a winner take all game, gives them a clear edge.
The Verdict: Skip it unless you have moderately deep pockets
2022 Regular Season Win Total: Over 10.5 (-300)
Everything I said about winning the division is true here as well. The bet is only worth it if you have the funds to invest. Their quarterback, CJ Stroud is head and shoulders above the competition in all their key matchups, including Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin and Michigan State. That alone should be enough to give them the edge in each of these high stakes matchups.
The Verdict: Worth the bet if you can invest at these odds
Odds to Make the Playoffs: Yes -275 | No +200
There’s no doubt that if they win the Big-Ten and get to at least 11 regular season wins they’ll be in the playoffs. Their strength of schedule is too darned good. And so is the quality of this team on both sides of the ball.
The no vote is tempting at those odds if you want to get cute. Anything can and often does happen in college football, but it’s not advised.
The Verdict: Yes -275 if you have the funds
2022 Heisman Contenders: CJ Stroud +225, Jaxon Smith-Nijigba +25000, TreVeyon Henderson +3500, Marvin Harrison Jr. +20000, Julian Fleming +30000
CJ Stroud did not even finish in the top-two last year in spite 4,435 yards of passing, 44 TDs and just six INTs. That tells you how this is partially a team award. Ohio State failed in its two biggest regular season games, falling to Michigan and Oregon. If he can put up similar stats this year and the Buckeyes come out on top in those key matchups, there is a strong argument to be made that he’ll be the one holding the Heisman at the end.
The Verdict: Worth a bet
Smith-Njigba put up 1,606 yards, nine TDs and 95 receptions last year and didn’t get a sniff. Henderson had a 1,560 all purpose yards and 19 TDs and was an afterthought in Heisman voting.
Harrison Jr. will be a bigger part of the offense this year and so will Fleming, but this is Stroud’s show and his award to win if the Buckeyes offense reaches similar heights as it did last year.
The Verdict: Skip the rest
