Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs: Betting Preview and Predictions
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder continue their push for the top seed in the Western Conference as they travel to face the struggling San Antonio Spurs. Oklahoma City has been dominant, winning four of its last five games, including a 135-119 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 31 points, while Luguentz Dort and Jalen Williams each contributed 20 points. The Thunder’s three-point shooting was the difference-maker, as they knocked down 23 of 50 attempts from beyond the arc.
Head coach Mark Daigneault emphasized the importance of shot selection and confidence. “You don’t score the way we’re scoring as consistently as we’re scoring without nice balance,” he said.
Oklahoma City leads the West by 9.5 games over the second-place Denver Nuggets and is just a game behind Cleveland for the best record in the NBA. However, they will be without Chet Holmgren (ankle) and Isaiah Joe (back) for Sunday’s matchup, which could affect their interior defense and three-point depth.
The Thunder have split their first two matchups against the Spurs this season, winning at home on Oct. 30 but falling in San Antonio on Nov. 19.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs return home after a grueling Rodeo Road Trip, where they went 4-8. They snapped a four-game losing streak with a dramatic 130-128 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, thanks to De’Aaron Fox’s clutch game-winner with 2.6 seconds left.
Fox, who was acquired from Sacramento at the trade deadline, finished with 20 points, while Stephon Castle led the team with 24 off the bench. Devin Vassell added 20 points, while Jeremy Sochan contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds.
San Antonio continues to adjust to life without Victor Wembanyama, who was ruled out for the season due to a blood clot in his right shoulder. The team has lost four of six games since his absence.
A potential boost for the Spurs was a recent meeting with head coach Gregg Popovich, who is recovering from a stroke. His presence at practice fired up the team, with forward Harrison Barnes acknowledging Popovich’s signature intensity.
“He had some spirited words about how we’ve been playing,” Barnes said. “There were a few of the four-letter variety sprinkled in. That’s how you know he’s doing well.”
Interim coach Mitch Johnson acknowledged Popovich’s absence has been difficult but reassured that the legendary coach is still fighting.
Betting Outlook
Spread: Oklahoma City -14
Total: 236.5
The Thunder are playing at an elite level, while the Spurs are trying to stay competitive despite their depleted roster. Oklahoma City’s three-point shooting and overall efficiency should overwhelm San Antonio’s defense, but the Spurs have shown resilience at home, especially with Fox bringing a new dynamic to the team.
Prediction: Oklahoma City wins and covers the spread, with the game going over the total.
