Game Preview
The Carolina Hurricanes, holding the NHL’s longest active winning streak at six games, look to continue their momentum against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night in Raleigh, N.C.
Martin Necas has been a driving force behind Carolina’s strong 8-2-0 start, with 18 points in his last nine games. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour praised Necas for his skill and growing confidence, noting his improved consistency and reduced risk-taking on the ice. Necas contributed a goal and two assists in Sunday’s 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals, helping Carolina outshoot their opponent 45-21.
Carolina’s offense is well-rounded, with defenseman Dmitry Orlov adding two goals on Sunday, bringing his season total to three. Brind’Amour highlighted Orlov’s powerful shot, saying, “We’d love him to shoot more.”
Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov, stepping in for the injured Frederik Andersen, made 19 saves to improve to 5-1-0 this season. His focused approach has benefited from Carolina’s puck control, allowing him to remain steady under pressure.
The Flyers, on the other hand, have won three of their last five games after a rough six-game losing streak. Offense remains a challenge, as Philadelphia has only scored four goals over the past three games, including a 3-0 shutout loss to Boston on Saturday. Coach John Tortorella is focused on defensive strength, saying, “When you play well in front of your goalies, you have the puck more. Defense has to be our priority.”
Philadelphia’s goalie situation has been complicated by an injury to Samuel Ersson, leaving Aleksei Kolosov likely to step into the starting role. The Flyers will also need to tighten up defensively on the road, as they’ve allowed six goals in each of their three regulation away losses.
Last season, Philadelphia went 1-2-1 against Carolina, with neither team scoring more than four goals in any game.
