After a 3-6 start to begin their season in 2021, the Philadelphia Eagles corrected the ship in grand fashion by finishing with a 6-2 record with a meaningless loss to Dallas en route to a playoff spot. They did surrender to Tampa Bay in a wild card game but the progression was indeed notable. The stars are aligned for the Eagles to make a splash in the NFC East in 2022. The roster experienced significant upgrades at key positions which should help quarterback Jalen Hurts in his second full season as a starter. The Eagles made a robust move to support Hurts by trading with the Titans for WR A.J. Brown who racked up almost 3,000 yards in 43 games for Tennessee.
Brown and DeVonta Smith will form one of the best duos at the position in the league along with TE Dallas Goedert, who had a breakout season with 830 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns. Hurts has started just 19 games so it is entirely possible that the Alabama product develops into an elite passer with the weapons he has at his disposal. With Brown, Smith and Goedert and newcomer WR Zach Pascal creating havoc for opposing pass defenders and one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, the Eagles, who led the league in rushing yards last season, will have the luxury to use their double-threat attack whether it is on the ground or in the air.
The Eagles boast a slew of defensive players who are either blue-chip stars or at least above-average starters. DT Fletcher Cox and fellow tackle Javon Hargrave are incredible interior defenders and the team has added former first-round pick Haason Reddick, who recorded 23.5 sacks in his last two season with Arizona and Carolina. DT Jordan Davis; selected 13th overall in this year’s draft could have an immediate impact for the front seven. CB Darius Slay, a top-five corner, with have help at the position with former Giant James Bradberry joining him at cornerback. There are still concerns at safety and the pass rush needs to be better but all the ingredients are there for the defense to evolve significantly.
Apart from games against the Cardinals, Packers, Cowboys (twice) and the Colts, the Eagles have a relatively easy schedule and could run the table with the rest of teams they skirmish with.

The Bottom Line:
Hurts is the key piece whether the Eagles develop as a Super Bowl contender. Opponents have been able to concentrate their efforts on Hurts as a runner but with a revamped receiving corps, the passing attack could be a problem for any defenses in the league. While the signal-caller isn’t the most polished passer, the running attack should compliment an improved aerial arsenal. The Eagles are my favorite to surpass Dallas and will take the NFC East title.
Last year’s record: 9-8
My Prediction: 12-5
