Seattle Kraken Outlook – Home Ice? More Like Home Ocean

Remember when the Kraken’s “home-ice advantage” felt like a myth? Those early years at Climate Pledge Arena were rough, 71 wins, 75 losses, and fans chewing their foam fingers in frustration. But this year? It’s like someone found the cheat code for Seattle hockey. The Kraken are 4-0-2 at home, and suddenly that big glowing Climate Pledge logo doesn’t feel so ironic.

Defenseman Vince Dunn summed it up best: “We’ve been inconsistent, but we’re done with that.” Translation: losing in Seattle is now illegal. And under first-year head coach Lane Lambert, the Kraken even changed their pregame ritual, now skating on their home ice in the morning to “get a feel” for it. Because apparently, the ice is different, the vibes are different, and the wins are definitely different.

Lambert’s squad just took down Chicago 3-1, their fourth straight win at home. Jordan Eberle and Matty Beniers each scored and goaltender Joey Daccord looked like a brick wall disguised as a man, stopping 29 shots. The victory nudged Seattle into first place in the Pacific Division, and you can tell the team believes it’s for real this time.

“I’m pumped,” Daccord said, in what might be the understatement of the year. The guy’s rocking a 6-1-3 record with a 2.53 GAA and .910 save percentage, basically, he’s been so steady that the Kraken might name the arena after him next.

San Jose Sharks Outlook – Progress, But Still a Little Fishy

Meanwhile, the Sharks are quietly trying to look respectable again after being the NHL’s version of a reality TV train wreck for the last two seasons. And, to their credit, they’ve looked better lately, 3-1-1 in their last five, including a gritty 3-2 shootout loss to Detroit.

Rookie phenom Macklin Celebrini had his point streak snapped at seven games, which for San Jose fans feels like finding out the Wi-Fi’s down during the playoffs. But even without him on the scoresheet, the Sharks have been competitive. Jeff Skinner is still scoring, Sam Dickinson finally notched his first NHL goal, and goalie Alex Nedeljkovic has been solid enough to keep them in games, mostly by stopping everything that moves.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky sees signs of progress, even if he can’t say “turnovers killed us” without twitching. The Sharks still give away pucks like free samples at Costco, but they’re trending upward.

Warsofsky put it simply: “The confidence is coming.” Which is coach-speak for “please don’t make us watch the 2023 season again.”

Prediction – The Kraken Keep Making Waves

The Sharks are swimming better, but the Kraken have found their rhythm at home, loud crowd, stingy goaltending, and just enough offense to drown visiting teams. San Jose will make it interesting for a period, maybe two, before Seattle’s depth and puck control take over.

Expect Seattle to keep their home streak alive and their fans yelling “Release the Kraken!” like it’s a national holiday.

Seattle’s home ice isn’t cursed anymore, it’s becoming a fortress. And right now, it’s looking like the Sharks are about to swim straight into the storm.

Score Prediction: Seattle 4, San Jose 2
Pick: Seattle -1.5 (+150)
Total: Under 6.5 Alt Lines (-130)
