Game Preview

The Texas Rangers aim to reverse their fortunes and avoid a sweep in the final game of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.

Following a five-game win streak, Texas faltered in the first two matchups in Toronto, including a 7-3 defeat on Saturday. Kevin Gausman’s complete game for the Blue Jays allowed their bullpen a needed rest.

The Rangers now find themselves 4 1/2 games behind the AL West-leading Houston Astros and 3 1/2 games back from the Seattle Mariners, who hold second place.

Toronto hopes to conclude its nine-game homestand on a positive note with Jose Berrios (8-8, 4.08 ERA) taking the mound. Berrios, who has struggled against Texas in the past with a 6.75 ERA over six starts, suffered a recent loss to Tampa Bay, giving up three runs in less than five innings.

Jon Gray (5-4, 3.73) will start for Texas, coming off a strong performance against the Chicago White Sox where he allowed just one run over nearly eight innings, contributing to a 3-2 win. Gray has a 5.85 ERA in four career starts against Toronto.

Texas’ batting has been tepid this season, and their pitching also stumbled on Saturday, with Michael Lorenzen surrendering four runs early, leading to an extended outing for relievers Jose Urena and Dane Dunning.

Among the few highlights for Texas was Wyatt Langford, who not only delivered an RBI double but also showcased his defensive skills by throwing out a runner at home.
