Game Preview

After Aaron Judge blasted his 41st home run of the season in the first inning on Saturday, Blue Jays manager John Schneider opted to intentionally walk the Yankees star with two outs and no one on base in the following inning.

"I just didn’t want to see him swing," Schneider explained. "We talked about being extra cautious with him, and sometimes that focus on precision can lead to mistakes."

Judge has homered in both games of the ongoing series between the Yankees and Blue Jays. He aims to keep his hot streak going as the two teams face off in the series finale on Sunday, with the Yankees and Blue Jays finishing their season matchups.

Gerrit Cole (3-2, 5.40 ERA) will start for the Yankees, while rookie Yariel Rodriguez (1-4, 4.31 ERA) takes the mound for Toronto.

The Yankees tied the season series at six games each with an 8-3 win on Saturday, where Judge hit his 16th first-inning home run, matching Babe Ruth’s club record set in 1927.

"Situations like that come up now and then, and it’s on us to capitalize," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

Judge has reached base in 70 games and has hit six home runs in his last eight games, and nine in his last 17. He is batting .421 (24-for-57) over his last 17 games, raising his average to .321 with 103 RBIs.

"That’s a stellar season for most players, and he’s only halfway through," Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon noted.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is also on fire, going 3-for-4 with his 22nd home run on Sunday. He’s hitting .525 (31-for-59) with nine homers and 18 RBIs over a 16-game hitting streak, pushing his average to .318.

"It’s incredible to watch him right now," Schneider said. "He’s capable of this kind of performance, with 15 homers in the past month alone."

Guerrero’s standout performance came in a game where the Blue Jays trailed by five, committed two errors, and loaded the bases in the ninth inning, only for George Springer to strike out.

Springer, who started as the DH after injuring his left shin, might return to the outfield on Sunday.

Cole, who faces Guerrero with a .344 batting average against him (11-for-32), returns after being scratched from Tuesday’s start in Philadelphia due to fatigue.
