Vegas vs Detroit NHL Preview & Pick
Moneyline: Detroit -138
Spread: Detroit -1.5 (+190)
Total: 6.0
LVSB reporting live from the imaginary sportsbook couch where the snacks are elite and the bets are questionable.
Tonight’s matchup features Detroit as a -138 moneyline favorite with the total sitting at 6.0. Translation in gambling language: Vegas expects a tight hockey game where both teams might score just enough to make over bettors sweat like they just parlayed six road underdogs.
Detroit finally returns home after what feels like a traveling circus tour of the NHL.
Let’s break this masterpiece down.
Detroit Red Wings: Back Home and Slightly Less Grumpy
The Red Wings are finally back at Little Caesars Arena for the first time since January 31. That night went about as well as a slot machine that only pays in coupons. Detroit lost 5-0 to Colorado and the fans probably spent the third period googling pizza toppings instead of watching the game.
Since then Detroit has been living out of suitcases during a five game road trip, going 3-2-0 including a nice 4-2 win over Nashville.
Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond both delivered a goal and an assist in that win, which is exactly what you want when you are trying to stay alive in the Atlantic Division knife fight.
Cam Talbot also stepped in with 18 saves after John Gibson got dinged up. Hockey goalies are basically superheroes with bad hobbies, so Talbot jumping in cold and shutting things down deserves some love.
Detroit sits just four points behind Tampa Bay for the division lead and two points behind the red hot Buffalo Sabres. Meanwhile Montreal and Boston are lurking behind them like that one friend who always wants to split the dinner bill evenly even though he ordered lobster.
Coach Todd McLellan recently called out parts of his team for being “just jerseys.” Which is hockey coach language for “please do something useful while wearing the uniform.”
Vegas Golden Knights: Masters of the Late Start
Vegas arrives for the second half of a back to back after losing 3-2 to Buffalo. That makes three straight losses and four games on this road trip where the Golden Knights apparently decided the first two periods were optional.
During the trip they have been outscored 12-3 in the first forty minutes. That is not a slow start. That is showing up to work after lunch.
Ivan Barbashev summed it up perfectly when he said falling behind 3-0 every night is not exactly a winning strategy.
Coach Bruce Cassidy also confirmed the obvious. The Knights tend to wake up only after getting punched in the face on the scoreboard.
The good news for Vegas is that they still have the talent to flip games late. The bad news is you cannot keep spotting teams goals like you are running a charity program.
LVSB Betting Prediction
Detroit at -138 on the moneyline feels like the sharper side tonight. The Red Wings are finally back home, they are fighting for playoff position, and Vegas has been treating the first period like a warm up skate instead of actual hockey.
If you are looking for a little more juice, the Detroit puck line at -1.5 goals paying +190 becomes very interesting. Vegas has been digging early holes on this road trip, and if Detroit jumps ahead, the Knights could be chasing the game again.
The total at 6.0 is tricky. Detroit has enough offense with DeBrincat and Raymond, while Vegas can still score once they remember the game started.
Now if Vegas could just try playing hockey in the first period, that would be great for everyone. Especially their bettors.
Score Prediction: Red Wings 4, Golden Knights 2
Pick: Detroit -1.5 (+190)
Total: Over 5.5 Alt Lines (-135)
