Washington Commanders Preview
What was once hyped as a primetime clash between a veteran champion and a rising dual-threat star now looks one-sided. Washington enters this Monday night matchup limping both literally and figuratively. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a hamstring injury last week, leaving Marcus Mariota to start in one of the league’s toughest venues at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Commanders have dropped three of their last four, and their defensive issues are glaring. They’re allowing 7.8 yards per pass attempt, dead last in the NFL and opponents have burned them for eight completions of 40+ yards this season. Falling behind early has been a recurring theme; Washington has trailed by double digits in five of seven games and is 1-4 in those contests.
Cornerback Marshon Lattimore, acquired in last year’s trade with the Saints, has been exposed in coverage and continues to commit costly penalties. Unless the secondary tightens up, it’s hard to see Washington hanging around for long.
Player Prop Pick (Commanders): Terry McLaurin Over 56.5 Receiving Yards — With Mariota under pressure to make quick reads, McLaurin should be peppered with targets on short and intermediate routes.
Kansas City Chiefs Preview
The Chiefs have returned to form after a slow start, winning three of their last four, including a dominant shutout of the Raiders. Patrick Mahomes continues to prove why he’s the best in the business, 1,800 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and only two picks through seven games. Even scarier, he hasn’t had to play the full 60 minutes lately, sitting the fourth quarter of last week’s blowout.
Kansas City’s offense looks sharper than it has all season, thanks to the return of Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, both now fully integrated into the attack. Mahomes’ chemistry with his receiving corps is improving each week, and with Andy Reid’s play-calling hitting its rhythm, it’s hard to bet against them at home.
The only concern lies on the offensive line. Left guard Trey Smith is questionable with back spasms, and Josh Simmons remains out, but replacement Jaylon Moore has been solid. If protection holds, Kansas City should carve up a leaky Commanders secondary with ease.
Player Prop Pick (Chiefs): Patrick Mahomes Over 2.5 Passing Touchdowns — Washington’s backfield coverage has been a disaster, and Mahomes could rack up scores early.
NFL Betting Outlook & Prediction
Kansas City enters as 11-point favorites with a total set at 48.0, and that line feels justified. The Chiefs’ offense is in midseason form, while Washington’s defense can’t stop big plays. Mariota’s mobility might buy some time, but the Commanders simply don’t have the firepower to trade scores with Mahomes.
Kansas City covers the spread and the total sneaks over thanks to late-game scoring.
