The New Jersey Devils and Anaheim Ducks, both grappling with demanding schedules and recent losses, meet Sunday night in Newark, N.J.
The Devils are on a four-game skid (0-2-2), most recently falling 4-3 to the New York Islanders in overtime on Friday. Meanwhile, the Ducks are coming off a 2-1 loss to the Rangers on Saturday as they kicked off a four-game road trip. Both teams are looking to shake off their latest setbacks.
New Jersey’s hectic start includes an NHL-high 11 games, three back-to-back sets, and a taxing schedule that has exposed defensive struggles, with the Devils conceding at least four goals in each loss. "Chasing the game from the start has been a challenge," said Devils coach Sheldon Keefe.
For Anaheim, the offensive drought is evident, with three goals or fewer scored in six of their seven games so far. On Saturday, goalie Lukas Dostal kept the game close, but the Ducks’ offense remained quiet until defenseman Olen Zellweger finally found the net in the third period.
Ducks coach Greg Cronin highlighted the urgency for “blue-collar goals” to break out of the scoring slump, hoping the team can find its rhythm against the Devils. Both clubs are hunting for a much-needed win to get back on track.
